The Calling of Wrath - Chapter 10 - Skills

Year 819 | Month 1 | Day 4
The old man didn’t mention why he wanted me to wait till after we finished hunting to spend the EXP, but I’m guessing it’s because of the bonus EXP granted from killing a monster that’s a higher level than you.
Although he never specifically mentioned that you get more EXP from killing something higher level than you, but it was easy enough to tell just from killing the direwolves and looking at how much EXP they gave.
The direwolves ranged between levels 4 and 8, and the ones that were at a higher level seemed to give an additional fifty percent of the EXP they would normally give added to their normal given EXP. And considering that these higher level direwolves are still just giving me 18 EXP instead of the 24 of the first one, I’m guessing they give different amounts of bonus EXP for the different level gaps between us.
I frown slightly at my status.
The old man really was right when he said that the System is built entirely to push people into challenging themselves.
Not that I have a problem with it, especially considering my current predicament, but it’s something to think about at least.
Anyways, I select the underlined word ‘Skills’ on my status.

Hmm..
I click on the word Expand next to The Calling of Wrath, and it brings out the same description that was shown to me when I first got the skill, along with the word ‘Condense’ at the end of it in italics and underlined. When I click on the word, the description goes away and is replaced with Expand again.
Convenient.
After that, I try clicking on the plus next to the level of the first racial skill, causing another note to appear.

My eyes widen at the enormous amount of EXP needed before I swipe away at the note, making it fade away in the process, leaving the other one unchanged.
That’s a lot of EXP.
Is it because it’s a racial skill?
With that thought in mind, I repeat the process with my Siphon skill.

Okay, that’s much better. Although still a little much for now.
Maybe I’ll level it when I have more EXP to work with.
For now, though, I swipe away at both the level-up note and the skills list note before reopening up my status and clicking on the plus. After that, I level myself up twice in a row and return to the status while enjoying the feeling of growing in strength.

I give a short nod despite no one being around after the feeling fades away before swiping my hand through the status and turning my attention towards the spatial bag on the floor.
Just one last thing to do before I go hunt.
I focus on the spatial bag for a few seconds before a note appears.

My eyebrows raise as I see the color of the item’s text.
The old man casually tossed me a Tier 5 item?
Maybe I should reevaluate how powerful he actually is.
Putting that aside for the moment, I pick the bag up before noticing a couple of very small loops on the side of the pouch. I then glance at the pants I’m wearing to see two very similar loops on the sides of the pants, opposite from each other.
Maybe…
I move the pouch towards the loops and surprisingly the loops on the bag immediately connect to the ones on the pants.
Very interesting.
And very convenient.
I glance back at the bed for a second, only to begin making my way towards the entrance to the cave, stopping for a brief second in front of the barrier before pushing through it.
Time to hunt.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not even five minutes later, I find myself staring at my reflection in the beautiful river next to the cave.
So that’s what I look like now…
I never did get a chance to look. Considering that the last time I passed by this river – while conscious – was when I was covered in blood and shredded clothes while searching for the cave.
In my reflection, I find several changes that I hadn’t noticed before. First and foremost being that all four of my canines have been sharpened quite a bit and are longer, although not long enough to stick out of my mouth. But it certainly explains how I was able to tear the throat out of a direwolf with them.
Next is my eyes.
Prior to the Initialization, my eyes were pure black, without a speck of color outside of the white of my eyes.
But now?
Now there’s a faintly glowing ring of red just around the pupils of my eyes, with the usual black around that.
Also, is it just me, or is my skin slightly smoother than before?
I raise my hand up to feel it, only to remember my glove and take it off to touch my cheek.
Yep. Smoother.
Interesting to know, but not like it matters much out here.
I reach to put my glove back on, only to pause at the sight of the claws before looking at my reflection in the water again.
Yeah, those claws look a little sinister.
Not really sure why my changes have so much red in them. The claws on my hands and feet, my eyes, and even the tips of my hair.
And if I remember correctly…
I turn around before arching my neck back to look at the reflection in the water and finding the markings the old man was talking about on my back.
…glowing red markings that shine clearly through my clothing.
Too bad it irritates my neck too much to continue looking, otherwise I’d try to examine them. But for now, I finish putting my glove back on before continuing my way into the trees to find something to hunt.
Because I haven’t eaten in days. Which is weird now that I think about it.
Why am I only now getting hungry?
Are there more changes to my body other than just the obvious ones?
Then again, I’m not exactly human anymore.
My brows furrow slightly at that fact, but I just shake my head and move on.
As long as I still look mostly human, I don’t really care.
Time to hunt some food!

Thanks for pointing that out. I was still in the mindset of detailing the size of the continents on the map when writing that, so I put square meters instead. It's been fixed.

Square is if u want to define a flat area like a plot of land, space in a pouch or room needs to be cubed because u can fit a ton of shit in two dozen square meters if u don't care about the height.
