Dungeon from the Void - Book 4 - Chapter 7 - Insight

"And that should do it..." I mutter as I finish infusing mana into the second of the two lycans I planned on mana infusing.
After doing that, I turn my attention to the entirety of the second section of the tenth floor. The section is full of over a dozen different fortresses, each with a few wolf dens around them where the wolves occupying the den will come to help each other when in trouble. They will also act as a security measure for the fortresses, warning them whenever an intruder gets near.
One issue that I could never solve between the lycans and the wolves is that the lycans have a slightly worse sense of smell than them. They still have a much better sense of smell than a Human or Elf, but it's still worse than the wolves that they originated from.
Although I'm not entirely sure why it ended up like that. But regardless of why, I do hope that I can solve that issue at some point in the future.
For now, though, I'm stuck with doing it like this. But at least this is an interesting setup.
The goal of the second section is to kill the two mana infused lycans. These lycans will be in different fortresses each and every time an intruder enters the floor, so they can't just mark down which fortress has a mana infused lycan.
Both of the lycans also spawn in different fortresses, making it even harder to find and kill them.
However, as soon as both of the mana infused monsters are dead, the gate to the boss room will open up.
I turn my attention away from the tenth floor to find Dawn watching a group of intruders on the fifth floor.
Out of curiosity, I focus on the intruders as well and begin watching them as they fight the void hobgoblin stationed on the sixth floor of the tower on the fifth floor of my dungeon. The party doesn't look all that well put together, with only about half of a full group being alive. Although I'm not sure if that's because half of their party died, or they just didn't bring a full group.
Either way, the group isn't faring very well.
The goblins on the balconies within the walls are constantly shooting at the intruders, causing the three level eights to make mistake after mistake after mistake. Just one of these mistakes even leads to one of the three intruders - an Orc at level 8 - fall into the pit of lava surrounding the platform with a loud and painful sounding scream.
I ignore the melting Orc to watch the remaining two continue their fight against the void hobgoblin on the platform.
The void hobgoblin isn't in the best of shape either, but even then, its still in better shape than the two remaining Orcs. Watching the fight honestly seems a little sad, since I can tell the Orcs don't have any chance at surviving.
Right as I have that thought, the void hobgoblin manages to steer one of the Orcs into another arrow from the goblins. The Orc then loses his balance and begins to fall off of the platform to join the last Orc that had fallen.
"Why is this party doing so poorly?" I mutter in bewilderment.
Dawn apparently hears me as she answers, "They had a rough start, and their leader was being an idiot and didn't want to give up before at least clearing the fifth floor. So this is how it ended up."
"Huh," I mutter while watching the last of the Orcs die, albeit not in the same way as the other two. This one dies to the void hobgoblin itself as it drains him of all of his life with its draining power.
I didn't really think about this much before, but I don't really take all that much time to watch the intruders as they go through my dungeon.
Maybe I should do that more often. Most of the time I spend all of my time working on something.
Whether that's cultivating, building new floors, or experimenting, I'm almost always busy doing something.
I wonder if it might give me some more insight on my traps and floors in general if I start watching more intruders pass through them? Because I normally only watch people test traps or floors once or twice before making any needed changes and moving on.
"You okay?" I hear Dawn ask me, distracting me from my thoughts.
When I look at her, I find her next to my core with her flame glowing a greenish yellow out of worry.
"Yeah," I answer her while turning my attention back towards the tenth floor. "I was just busy wondering if I should watch the intruders more often or not. For inspiration and learning purposes."
Dawn teleports to the tenth floor as she says, "That might not be a bad idea. It could also get you a bit more acclimated to how the intruders think, instead of just how you as a dungeon core would think in the situations you make with your floors."
Hmm...
I turn my focus back onto her for a few seconds before looking at another group of intruders as I say, "Yeah, maybe I will watch some more groups before I go back to finishing up the tenth floor. All I need to do is make the boss room and promote Fang anyways, so it isn't that much work."
And besides. I will probably need a decent amount of mana to do that, so having more when I start the promotion process would be nice.
After all, it would suck to just run out of mana in the middle of promoting Fang. I'm not even sure what that would entail to be honest.
That said, I'm not interested in finding out.
Anyways, of the three instances, two of them have intruders currently. The third one was the Orcs, who are now dead.
Which reminds me. I really should put some sort of item or structure on my dungeon's entrance to tell the intruders up above whether an instance is free or not.
