Doctor Who Series 3 - Daleks in Manhattan

Another two parter, and another episode with our bestest friends of this (and other) planets :D :D

Doctor Who Series 3 - Daleks in Manhattan

Yeah, I didn´t like that episode either. It was way too slow. And in contrast to you, I did not like the setting, the 1930´s. And I can´t really tell what bugs me the most, about this episode. Like I said in my afterthoughts, it feels like they threw random story parts in one, and it just didn´t feel well rounded. I absolutely agree about Martha, she is really brave :) Haha yes the pig :) I was immediately reminded of the "Aliens in London" episode. I felt so bad for that little piggy back then.

Yes I agree, not the best episode. It was a little bit too slow, to just build up the story for the second part. Thank you for that info about Tallulah, I had no idea :)

This is not my favourite of the episodes we've seen so far this season. I do like the idea of setting the story in 1930's New York showing the Central Park Hooverville camp and backstage at the theatre. I like hearing "Rhapsody in Blue" as we see New York and I like Tallulah's song. But the story is a bit muddled and, as you point out, rather slow (perhaps Tallulah's song isn't really necessary). There's some odd science in here too. I allow the writers a certain amount of weird stuff to set up a story but this seems to exceed my limit somehow. Oh, I should also have mentioned I liked how brave Martha was in stepping forward in front of some aliens and demanding to know what was happening. It's interesting that you were reminded of the Slitheen pig. That was a good guess.

This is not one of the most popular episodes of the series and I can understand why, There are some much better ones earlier and later. I liked the guy who was running Hooverville and Tallulah was funny but, you are right. None of it really hung together and the Dalek/Human at the end just looked ridiculous to me. By the way - when Martha tells Tallulah that The Doctor doesn't notice her, Tallulah assumes she means he's gay. That's why she says he must be "into musical theatre". That was a kind of coded way of calling a man gay in America in those days.
