OSCARS 2025 WICKED MONTAGE FT. CYNTHIA & ARIANA

I loved this Oz Universe medley so much and rewatch through the many reaction posts and the full versions that posted so quickly! Ariana's breathiness threw me, but she finished her Red Carpet interviews too close to start time and rushed to switch outfits and get in place to start the show. So glad they included The Wiz, which has largely been omitted from Oz discussions. It's also disappointing that so many reactors don't know about it. Cynthia's abbreviated version of "Home" was nice, but I think she was holding back. I also can't believe she messed up a lyric ("fate" should have been "face" to rhyme with "space")! Shortening it also didn't allow for the full emotional buildup. I saw the 1975 OBC with Stephanie Mills, so that will always be my favorite. (Hated the movie, btw). Even with some flat notes, "Defying Gravity" was awesome - just showed they are human! The shot of Ariana beaming was beautiful! I wish the cameras had panned out so we could have seen the stage rise as Cynthia truly put her body into it! Does anyone else think they turned down the mic on the riff? I wish I could have been there to witness it live - can you imagine? I still get chills!

2025-03-07 05:05:47 +0000 UTCNo, it was live. Ari looked very nervous in that last interview, like: “Yeah, let me go, I have to go”. And Cynthia did say: “I have to find a little bit of time to warm up in a bit”. So they went from the red carpet straight to the performance.

2025-03-06 22:56:59 +0000 UTCDefinitely nerves. Probably also tired and emotional because of this entire experience. I also think the last time she performed Somewhere Over The Rainbow live was at the One Love Manchester concert, which was held in memory of the Manchester bombing victims and survivors, so she was probably reminded of that as well. She still sounded amazing. Also, you can't see it in the performance but the back of her dress had the red shoe coming out. And there is a pic of Cynthia backstage watching Ari the way Ari was looking at Cynthia. I love their friendship ❤

2025-03-06 07:18:21 +0000 UTCI was rooting for Demi Moore for her amazing performance in The Substance slightly more simply because at least Cynthia has a chance with Part 2 and also Demi has been overlooked for way too long considering how long she's been in the industry. I find it more ironic that she lost to a younger woman due to the story of the movie she starred in (which Danny reacted to btw on his channel). I haven't seen Anora and I've only seen Mikey in Scream 5, she was actually really good in that. But I was definitely surprised and honestly a bit disappointed.

2025-03-06 07:02:32 +0000 UTCI had to look up who won over Cynthis, then I had to look up who Mikey was, then I had to look up a trailor for Anora... I didnt see anything special at all. Seriously? ...i have to agree with you.

2025-03-06 02:03:10 +0000 UTCI definitely think they are as close as they portray themselves to be (maybe even closer idkkkk) because they literally have like 10 matching tattoos. In a interview Cynthia said she considers matching tattoos more serious than marriage😭😭 anyway I think this performance was beautiful and I hope they take home Oscar’s for part 2

2025-03-06 01:28:58 +0000 UTCAnother singer mentioned that Ariana was so breathy because she was nervous. I know she's played larger venues than that, but it's completely understandable if she were. This is an interesting video about Oz's queerness from the source materials of L Frank Baum and Gregory Maguire, interspersed with parts of Wicked interviews (Kristin, Idina, Ariana, Cynthia): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hV-aGy2Huj4 Whether you choose to film it for the channel or not, it is worth watching. There's a foundational reason you picked up on Gelphie. 15:52 reminded me of your comparison of Galinda during Popular.

2025-03-06 01:04:06 +0000 UTCTheoretically, yes, if they are nominated (which they should be) https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/can-oscars-win-an-emmy-year-envelopegate-1013308/

2025-03-06 00:55:05 +0000 UTCCan they win an Emmy for this performance because that was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. That ending was SO dramatic, OMG!! Cynthia's emotions brought me all the way back into Wicked. I did NOT expect Ari's "I hope you're happy", the platform rising?!, and until you said it, I thought the choir was a track!! Just WOW! That production was incredible!!

2025-03-05 17:43:19 +0000 UTCWhat an amazing way to end Wicked Part 1 era. I'm still salty about them being snubbed the entire award season and not even being acknowledged for the incredible professional and skillful singers and work that they did on this project. But sure, give Cynthia's egot award to the young white girl. They were robbed. Also salty about wicked being nominated for 10 Oscars and only receiving two. And yet the academy had no problem milking pictures of them and social media posts including them all over the place which help boost their ratings and then they walked away with nothing. Rude! They better make it up to them after part two.

2025-03-05 16:49:46 +0000 UTCI was a bit confused going into this performance because they interviewed Ari on the carpet like literally 5 minutes before this performance in a completely different dress. I wonder if that was pre-recorded because I cannot imagine her running directly from that interview to change and perform. I also wouldn't be surprised if she was feeling under the weather because they've been running her ragged this awards season with interviews, screenings, and award shows. But overall, it was a great performance. I think the reaction of the crowd there says it all. I really hope they bring them back next year for a performance from the second movie.

2025-03-05 16:21:31 +0000 UTCThey both did amazing here. I did hear some pitch issues throughout but they overall were amazing as usual. Ariana could have not been feeling the greatest for all we know. She did breathe a lot and it was noticeable. I don't fault her for it. Singers can't be flawless always they're human at the end of the day, right? She could have been nervous doing a Wizard of Oz original. Some have levels of expectation of how it should sound. I'd be nervous as hell making sure I'm staying true to the original while putting my own little flare in it. Yes. She is a professional singer, but she's not a robot. Can't be perfect. Sometimes the imperfections can be beautiful and remind us of the talent they have and just how human they are. Cynthia always looks effortless as if she's like, "this is easy as if I was just speaking, could someone give me something difficult to sing for once." Overall phenomenal. They have a true sisterhood and love for each other. You can see it when they interact in every interview I've seen or performances. They bonded as sisters and best friends. It makes it all that more beautiful and special.

2025-03-05 16:01:06 +0000 UTCIt really was incredible. Ari was nervous and prob emotional too cuz she has a very deep history w this song and the manchester bombing. She used to not be able to sing the song without crying, so really proud of her ❤️

2025-03-05 15:46:42 +0000 UTCI think I read that she was on vocal rest and wouldn’ t talk at that pre show so maybe sick or like you said very nervous after all it is the Oscar’s.

2025-03-05 15:44:41 +0000 UTCThey were super emotional before and after and I’m assuming during. There are videos of them completely breaking down after it was over. So I’m thinking she was holding back emotion.

2025-03-05 15:42:35 +0000 UTCI’m gunna be super picky cause these are two of best singers alive rn. The breathing really took me out. I get being nervous and emotions but it did take me out at the beginning. But she ended strong and you def felt her emotions. Cynthia always sounds amazing. I feel like it didn’t move me as much as that song has in the past or how Cynthia has made me feel during wicked. I didn’t like the cut they made to the music so that through me off. But I’d love to hear her sing Home again in a different setting so she has the time to sink into it cause wow she sounds really amazing on it. Defying gravity was great. Got chills at the end. You can tell it’s in their bones so there’s no reason for it to be anything other than perfect. Def got chills at the very end. Overall I def enjoyed it and thought easily best performance of the night. Like By FARRRR. I don’t mean any of this to me mean. More just as a singer myself I find it interesting when artists aren’t flawless and therefor you can really see what they are doing with their voice and how certain things like breath or even the cutting of a verse can change the emotional reaction and storytelling.
