SUPER FANS: "ONE SHORT DAY" -WICKED VOCAL ANALYSIS

Comments

#GELFIE!!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I love that delay too! AHHH GELPHIEEEEEEE is real 🥹❤️ I mean, it's not possible but I really love them together. 🥹 Love the chemistry so much!

About the design of the actors. They aren't inspired by Willy Wonka but by the original illustrations from the L. Frank Baum’s book.

Elphaba actually says “Quoxwood trees”. I don’t really know what this could be. The only thing related I can think about would be Quox which is a country north-east of Oz separated by desert.

The Wizard of Oz is from 1939! I'm 60 now, and watching that movie was an annual event. I was horribly traumatized by the flying monkies at 5 years old. Then again in Wicked!! 😆 I was curious about Willy Wonka, so I looked it up. The original film with Gene Wilder playing the wacky candy man came out in 1971.

Laura Moore

Oh good!!!! More to come

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Context changes everything haha

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Would love to see both the wiz and wizard of oz with you! Will be a fun dive into the past

Savvy

There are a ton of Easter eggs in this song. The woman who says "he can read it, he must be.. a wizard!" Is Winnie Holzman, the woman who wrote the screenplay for the broadway musical of wicked. Steven Schwartz is the man who says, "the wizard will see you now!"

Kat

I remember when you reacted to the album on its own, you said Kristin was doing too much and I soooo wanted to tell you the context! I'm glad you finally saw it and were able to react to it in context. And this time you said the exact opposite from you album reaction! I can't wait to see more vocal analysis!

Tema Krempley

Yesss!!! Love all of the vocal analysis videos!! I watch them over and over on my hour and a half drive every morning

Kat

So much more to come!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Is that from a different language? What’s the origin?

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Oh yea I totally forgot about the new Willy Wonka. Wonder if it was any good?

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

"The Wizard of Oz" came out in 1939. The book "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl (same author who wrote the book Matilda) was published in 1964. The original movie came out in 1971 with Gene Wilder. "The Wiz" came out in 1978. There was a remake of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" with Johnny Depp that came out in 2005. There was also more recently the movie "Wonka" with Timotée Chalamet that came out in 2023. The movie.

“Hoi Polloi” means with the masses like I want to be in this crowd.

There’s a bts of one short day as well. They did this whole song in 2 takes. That’s all they were allowed and the director came in that morning and rearranged the set after seeing it for the first time.

Love this reaction! One of my favorite songs (from part 1 at least). So excited to see you react to the rest of the featurette/making of wicked clips!
