I decided to listen to the podcast for this episode today. In the podcast, Kevin and Jenna talk about how a lot dialogue was spoken really quickly due to this episode being so packed and having to fit as much as they could in. They only went over the choreography for sectionals briefly the night before filming but really only learned it the morning of. Many members of “The Hipsters” choir also sang in The Circle of Life in the Lion King. In Dog Days they coined the term “free form rock out” for parts of a song without choreography where they just ran around the stage doing whatever they wanted, and they used this a lot going forward. Also one of their favorite lines (mine too) was a throw away line about Brittany losing her magic comb at “motorcross practice” 😂

2025-01-12 20:14:43 +0000 UTCWhen Kurt and Blaine are discussing Kurt getting a solo audition, Kurt says “For sectionals?” and Blaine replies “For sectionals.” This becomes a running gag of Kurt asking a question and Blaine repeating the line as an answer (they do it several times over the seasons). Also, I found it funny that in Kurt’s audition he starts lifting his hands Evita-style during “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” and Blaine tries to subtly coach him not to from the audience

2025-01-09 09:10:42 +0000 UTC- Valerie was Naya’s second favorite song of all time - When she walks across the stage during the line “ well my bodys been a mess” she shakes her shoulders doing her, to quote Kevin Mchale, “ lazy stripper shoulder walk” which was a reference to an inside joke that the cast had and between takes, the others would instruct her to make it “draggier” and make it bolder. - During the song “Dog Days Are Over” the cast was instructed to just have fun/there was no real choreography and when they are all together in the front you can see Chord throw Lea and Cory throw Naya (in playful ways)

2025-01-05 19:12:00 +0000 UTCIn the scene where Puck remembers Lauren asking for "7 Minutes in Heaven," Trent (the warbler) is clearly behind them as a McKinley High student. During the performance of Valerie, Ashley Fink can be seen making mistakes in the choreography. However, Fink has said she is not a dancer, and she was originally on the show to be a comedic background character. When Rachel angrily asks if they all knew about Finn and Santana, and Tina replies "Pretty much," Lauren nods. It is unclear how Lauren would know, as she joins New Directions in this episode, and wasn't shown to be close to any of the members previously, so it is unlikely she would have known.

2025-01-05 17:48:44 +0000 UTCWhen Kurt is waiting to see if he gets a solo at sectionals the two guys with him one of them is with Team Starkid now. The darker hair guy is Curt Mega, he was in Black Friday and Nerdy Prudes that you watched. The blond is Riker Lynch, you may know his younger brother Ross Lynch. He was the lead in a bunch of Disney Channel music shows or movies like Teen Beach Movie. What's interesting though is they held auditions to do a solo in one of the numbers, but then in their performance it's just Blaine singing the solo. Which kind of sucks because both Riker and Curt have great voices. You may notice from this moment on that every single time we see the Warblers till season six both of them are apart of the group.

2025-01-05 16:48:20 +0000 UTCThis marks the first time that Rachel does not sing at a competition. (Something that I wished happened more to showcase other talents. ) The scene between Will and Emma in the teachers lounge when she suggests using other glee members at sectionals was basically the show calling itself out on not featuring the many talents that they had. This is home to the only competition tie in the show between the New Directions and Warblers. It was done as a way to keep Kurt’s storyline more relevant so it makes sense. But what doesn’t make sense is how their competitions compared, because the NDs easily blew the Warblers out of the water. So the tie is necessary for the storyline but not based on how good the competitions actually were.

2025-01-05 16:44:26 +0000 UTCNotice how every time the camera is on Lauren Zizes, she’s eating or talking about food bribes. The actress Ashley hated it at the time and was really bothered by it until director Stacy K. Black came up to Ryan and said she doesn’t want to see another scene where Ashley eats! Ryan thought of it as a punchline even though it was very wrong, unfair and not funny at all.
