I've been avoiding these reactions but I can't sleep and I've got enough 🍃 in my system to tolerate it. This show became a big deal while I was in high school. I went to a high school with a huge, award winning show choir. The chior kids were the bullies and glee just fueld their egos. Even at 30 I'm still processing some of the shit those kids put me through. Good times. I will say the lgbt+ support in this show (and lots of other media at that time) made me feel seen and supported when all of the people around me did not.

Singing was amazing, the chemistry was great, and the DROMP reprise was a top 3 moment in her career to me. She definitely would have gotten at least a Tony nomination is she was eligible. But with that being said, I do think that Julie Benko’s (the alternative) performance was a little better. But they all had something to add. Rachel sending Sunshine to the crackhouse is iconic but not the a good way like the Quinn and Santana fight. I still see jokes and memes about it to this day.😂 One big gripe I have with this episode is that I wish we had actually seen Rachel apologize instead of another emotional number alone on the stage. Rachel gets a lot of those and they lose their effect after awhile. Especially when she was in the wrong and the song implies that she wasn’t. Like Take A Bow or Jar of Hearts. I just think it wasn’t a Rachel solo that was necessary.🤷🏼♀️ With Coach Beiste, they definitely weren’t the most approachable in the beginning, but Sue and Will had no excuses. Beiste was new and was dealing with what they were given. A decision that was out of their control. But they are a top 5 character to me! Does anyone know the reason why Rachel is wearing a skirt in ESOM and not only like everyone else? It really doesn’t matter but I have been wondering for years. One fun fact I forgot about: when JBI is attempting to interview Kurt, what he says about auto tune sales was a real critique about the show and was added to make fun of that opinion.

2024-11-21 22:40:26 +0000 UTCI'm more forgiving and understanding than most when it comes to Rachel but she was especially selfish in this episode. She is still one of my favourite characters and favourite singers on the show. She doesn't just sound amazing, she also puts so much emotion into it. Charice (Sunshine) was vocally perfect but I didn't feel half as much emotion from her as Lea. Btw, I know Charice later came out as trans and goes by Jake Zyrus now but I'm referring to how he identified back then AND the character. But, aside from being a little aggresive with Finn, I don't think Coach Beiste was mean at all, she was just spitting facts about the outrageous cheerleading budget. It had more to do with that than the Glee Club and then it was just her reaction to the way Sue and Will were treating her, which was horrible (especially Sue). The Quinn/Santana fight, Quinn's "You got a boob job!", Santana's "Yup sure did!" and Brittany’s "stop the violence" is iconic and one of the most memorable scenes of the entire series 🤣 Also "Rachel, how do you respond to rumors that you are incredibly difficult to work with?" 🙄 I mean, to be fair, I do think Lea has changed NOW but this is just one example of the writers commenting on real life stuff. And honourable mentions: "When are you slated to make the triumph that return to the Shire?" Because she's so short, like a hobbit 😂 "I've never had any balls in my mouth. Have you?" 🤣 "Fashion has no gender" 👏🏻 Also, a fun fact I forgot to mention is that the role of Shannon Beiste was created specifically for Dot-Marie Jones after having worked with Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck on Nip/Tuck and the failed pilot Pretty/Handsome. Her being a fan of Glee asked Brad during an encounter at a supermarket if she could be on the show. Still, she was shocked to hear from her agent two months later.
