GLEE REWATCH 01X19

Comments

I think COVID is what really killed flash mobs .

heather Phillips

I wondered if this was an actual flash mob and I looked it up and the producers actually used people's phone videos. I thought that was a fun little addition.

Kelsey

Oh the podcast on this episode is one my favorites!

Kristin Baylor

Yes!

Heida

That wild that Matthew was sick becaus ehe sounded great

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

He beat out BURT??! That's dumb.

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

sorry you had a shitty counselor who didnt know anything about the music business... or business online in general. I've dealt with a lot of parents pf my students like that. After a long talk about all the benefits of having a child into mnusic, they often are shocked at what they didnt know. Well no better time than the present. FOllow your dreams Megan!!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

My mother had me when she was 19 and immediately gave me up for adoption, to her foster parents actually, I’ve never met her but would like to one day I related to this whole storyline a bunch when I first started watching glee.

This, for whatever reason, is one of my least favourite episodes from seasons 1-3 (we won't count 4-6 bc yikes). I don't know what it is, but 90% of the time I rewatch, I deliberately skip this episode. I just find it so boring! I feel like NPH being there is pointless, and I truly do not care about Will enough for an episode with this much of him in it xD I only like the I Dreamed A Dream part. The rest is bleh. Editing to add: Bryan Ryan's thing at the beginning where he crushes everyone's dreams? That's what my high school guidance counsellor did to me in my grade 11 and 12 years. He told me I was unrealistic for wanting to perform, and told me that I should just be an accountant (please note I was failing math at this point.) I never went after my dream because.. what was the point if even the school people thought it wasn't going to ever happen?

Megan Christina

Fun fact I unironically quote Bryan Ryans "Hurray" at random XD. I've always really liked this episode, Dream on and I dreamed a dream are both so good. plus, I do really like Arties's flash mob dance scene. It's just a great episode and so well done!

I agree about Rachel and Jessie. They have just as good chemistry as her and Finn but different because of the difference in Leas relationship with each actor. They are very compatible but in a way that makes Finn brings her down to earth more while Jessie kind of does the opposite. But I’m so glad that they ended up together when Finn wasn’t an option. Will definitely was better in the duet. His voice is the perfect mold for MT songs. I’m not the biggest fan of NPH’s voice but regardless, it wasn’t a good fit for that song. Speaking of NPH, I have a bone to pick with the Emmy committee. He won an Emmy for best guest performance in 2010 I believe. He’s definitely deserving of a nomination but not a win in my opinion. He was up against Mike O Malley for Burt Hummel! Not to mention of all the other actors in this show that were more deserving of a win. Especially the guests who had a bigger part. Like Kristian C. or Kate Hudson. It was a legacy pick if you ask me. I dreamed a dream is amazing! In fact, it’s the only Rachel and Shelby duet I actually enjoy. Also I don’t think Sue had anything to do with the casting decision. It was just her being an ass. Again. 🙄 Fun facts: (1) Already mentioned but NPH wins an Emmy for this episode. Jane Lynch, Ryan Murphy, and Gwyneth Paltrow would go on to win one as well. (2) The bar that piano man was filmed in is a very famous and old bar in LA that has been featured in many films and visited by many celebrities. I think it’s called Musso & Frank Grill. (3) During Safety Dance, you can spot Kurt, Matt, and Mike in the mall right before it starts. (4) When Brittney appears in SD, she is wearing a non-cheerios outfit for the first time.

Stoooop I never knew this!! I was lucky enough to see nerdy prudes live, I had no idea I was so close to some glee history :,)

Little fun fact, the theater that they have the Dream On audition in is the El Portal theater. That theater is where Team Starkid staged Nerdy Prudes Must Die and their newest musical that's currently available to rent called Cinderella's Castle. Anyone who's a Starkid fan by the way if you have $15 I can't recommend enough renting the show. You can watch it as many times as you can for 3 days. Sorry for the little promotion, but I figured I'd put that out there for anyone interested.

Turnip Crazy

I’m sorry Matthew and Neil look nothing alike to me, and Neil wins just because of the high note

Jake Sullivan

It's funny how much you've forgotten and are remembering during these rewatches 😂 I like Rachel and Jesse as well, and I know some people disagree because of the way he treated her but I think he was the right choice to have her end up with since they couldn't do their original ending of Rachel and Finn. A part of me liked her with Sam as well but I shipped him with Mercedes more (and I'm still pissed they weren't endgame). I Dreamed a Dream is iconic and Dream On is so good as well. I agree, I prefer Will's voice in that. Matthew was actually sick so his voice was lower than it normally was when he sang. Fun facts: Rachel tries to convince herself that Patti LuPone is her birth mother and later, she and Shelby sing I Dreamed a Dream. Patti LuPone created the role of Fantine in the original London production of Les Mis. As a child, Lea played young Cosette & young Éponine in the original Broadway production and she sang the role of adult Éponine for a 2008 Hollywood Bowl concert production. She was asked to be adult Éponine in the 2006 Broadway revival but she chose instead to stay with Spring Awakening. Fans had been lobbying for Idina to be cast as Rachel's biological mother due to the strong resemblance between her and Lea. Neil Patrick Harris won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for this episode. Also, in 2014, he won a Tony Award for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Darren Criss would later replace him. And he performs magic in the flashback, which is his signature gag in many of his roles. Harry Shum Jr. stated in an interview that prior to this episode he had never tap danced before and had two days to learn it. Zach Woodlee, the choreographer, had said that he was pretty sure Kevin was the best dancer out of the original six Glee Club members but was ironically the one in the wheelchair. John Michael Higgins has a brief cameo as Russell, a glee club survivor in Bryan's support group. He would later appear in the Pitch Perfect movies as John, the male commentator for the competitions. In Will's flashback, the blonde curly-haired Glee Club member whom Bryan asks to prom is played by Molly McCook, who is friends with Lindsay Pearce from The Glee Project since they did Spring Awakening together. She is also the daughter of John McCook who has played Eric Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful since it started in 1987. Goofs/continuity errors: In the pilot, Rachel says that her dads mixed their sperm and gave it to a surrogate mother. If this were the case, then she would know that she wasn't given up by her birth mother and that she wasn't an unplanned pregnancy like Quinn's. Rachel says she was born in December 1994, but in the pilot, she was already 16. In order for her to be 16, she would have had to have been born in December 1993, not 1994.

This is one of my go-to comfort episodes I can watch whenever and still feel all the Glee feels (next episode too tbh). Every song is amazing, the storylines are great, Tina + Artie are amazing together, Jessie and Rachel have such real chemistry and love for each other, and NPH is a fantastic guest star - he actually won an Emmy for his performance in this episode!! This episode is a true 10/10 in my book!
