GLEE 01X18 REWATCH PARTY

Comments

On Kevin and Jenna's podcast " Showmance" Kevin said Lea would sing horribly on purpose a lot of the time between takes and everyone would just fall apart . So Ryan put it in the show . When they were filming "the climb " everyone desperately tried not to laugh and they were all practically on the floor after the scene . He himself had to frown during filming in order to keep from laughing . 😆 Just to remind you Audrey , Cory's original musical talent was being a drummer . 😊

Jessie's Girl is one of my favourite Finn solos. That and The Boy Is Mine are ICONIC. That Puck storyline is certainly ridiculous but Glee always has those in between the sweet/real moments (it just becomes worse as the show goes on) 🤦🏼‍♀️ I love Mercedes standing up for herself though. I also love Rachel and Finn with Sean. That Tinkerbell line is Lea's favourite as well 🤣 Kurt pisses me off sometimes with the way he treats his dad. Like he's the most understanding and loving dad EVER but it's like Kurt is never grateful and always takes things the wrong way. Fun facts: Unlike Kevin McHale, Zack Weinstein (Sean) is actually paralysed and the character's injury is similar to his injury in real life. Glee of course attracted criticism for casting Kevin, an able-bodied actor,  in the role of a wheelchair-bound character (even by Kevin himself). However, Zack defended the casting choice. Chris Colfer said the hardest thing to do during the episode was watch Lea Michele sing off key; he tried so hard to keep a straight face 😂 I'm still mad we never got a real performance of that. Right before he performs Jessie's Girl in concert, Rick Springfield plays a montage of clips from various TV shows/movies that features a character singing the song, including the clip of Finn. This episode was Chris Colfer's submission for the 2010 Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Goofs/continuity errors: Jews usually don't eat pork and Quinn says that Puck's mother won't let her eat bacon, but Puck had previously mentioned eating sweet and sour pork as part of a family tradition while they watch Schindler's List together. Sean says that Finn tried out for Glee Club but he was forced to come (because Will put weed in his locker and blackmailed him) and then decided to stay on his own will. Finn says that since Jesse joined New Directions, Will gave him and Rachel all the solos though Jesse hasn't been seen performing any number since joining. Burt says "Nice to meet you" to Brittany as if he's meeting her for the first time, but he met her previously when she and Tina were dancing to Single Ladies with Kurt.

I love the fact that even Matt/Mike were pulling their weight according to Rachel's list lol. Gotta love our unspoken dancer boys!

this episode has some of my all-time favorite quotes: "girl, you got more curves than a nissan ad" "so you like showtunes, it doesn't mean you're gay, it just means you're awful" "there's only one person in this world who can tell you what you are. me? no, me." "i'm like tinkerbell finn, I need applause to live" kurt's line "i'm not a box, there are more than 4 sides to me" has driven me crazy since 2010 because boxes have 6 sides!! and yes, glee definitely requires suspension of disbelief when it comes to popularity dynamics, among other things

Yeah, I definitely notice more of that stuff going through it again. I just chalk it up to "that's weird television writing". It's like they have to shoehorn situations into place to make something else work, but it doesn't quite make sense etc. I just overlook it though because the core messages and feeling, and the amazing songs are totally worth it.

I also noticed the ignored characters more, as well as all of the background moments. As for the episode, it’s a good one! The music is great as well as the storylines. Really nothing to complain about. My favorite song is Roses Turn. It’s Kurt’s most iconic number and one of the best covers on the show. I have yet to find a version of that song that’s better than this one. I also think that is the number in the whole show that represents Broadway the best, if that makes sense. Also the Burt and Kurt scenes hit every single time! BTW, Kurt was the one to steal Sue’s tape, but I guess they’re till in the Cheerios because the outcome was good and she really needed them for her routines. I would also like to point out that the only members not singing were the jocks and cheerleaders. Kurt, Mercedes, Tina, and Artie were still singing. Despite Rachel’s dialogue making it seem like she was the only one. Fun facts: (1) They got The Boy is Mine in because of Nayas great Monica impression. She actually sneaked it in at one point in the song. I think the head shake. (2) Roses Turn is the 2nd and last time that a storyline was entirely written around a song. The other being Rachel’s DROMP and honestly, I think Roses Turn does it better. (3) Chris straight-up asked Ryan to do this number. (4) During Kurt and Brittneys make out scene, Chris was told that he looked to experienced and had to dial is back. 😂 (5) Ryan confirmed that Jessie was named Jessie just so Finn could sing this song. (6) Stevie Nicks visited the set in s2 and completed Cory on his Jessie’s Girl performance. (7) I believe this episode got Chris his 1st Emmy nomination. (8) Amber broke character a bit during the duet. It’s the brief moment Mercedes laughed. (9) The faces everyone was making during The Climb was them just trying not to laugh.

It seems like Burt was more having a hard time with his and Kurt’s differences in interests instead of Kurt’s sexuality Burt doesn’t know how to relate to Kurt and his interests and it was just so easy to spend time with Finn since they have a lot more common interests. It didn’t actually have anything to do with anyone’s sexuality but Kurt took is that way and instead of talking to Burt about finding common interests he tried to change himself into someone he thought Burt would be able to relate to. But I get it, it’s so damn hard being a teenager when all you want to do is fit in and when being different in any way is frowned upon. Ugg people can be so awful to each other.

Oh I definitely noticed how ignored certain characters were watching it a second time. Tina gets it the worst, artie is ignored for bits but he defo got more songs than her and quinn, quinn was not given enough songs imo. I'm loving watching you notice all the background stuff now. I did the same thing rewatching it, love seeing them just reacting in a scene and it's soo funny you can see people break character sometimes. I noticed kevin (artie) breaks character a lot when he's in the background during funny scenes.
