Both Santana and Brittany are in The Vogue video too. We can see aa Santana quick close up at the start of the video after the 3 male models, and then both of them "voguing" at the end. next to Sue, Mercedes and Kurt. The camera is never focusing on them, tho. They are also the hands that appear stylizing Sue or doing Jazz hands over her and Brittany is the torso wearing the cone bra. They're also on the $ minutes video, and the first Madonna songs in the stilts choreography. They were pretty much in most of the performances here. They really worked hard in tis episode, (and in most of them, tbf).

2024-09-27 07:29:04 +0000 UTCA top 3 tribute episode anyone?! The show got a bigger budget and they took advantage! The songs are great (many I consider better than the og.) and they don’t feel crammed into the episode for the sake of music sales. We hear Santana for the first time and Like A Prayer is one of the best ending numbers! My favorite is definitely 4 minutes! Kurt and Mercedes only having two duets in six seasons is my Roman Empire. 🙄 I like it so much more than the original! I guess because I didn’t grow up with it and I think the glee vocal chemistry and screen chemistry between the two performers are better than Madonna and JT. Madonna is a great performer but she’s not the best singer, unlike Mercedes, and I love the growls that Kurt has. Honestly, Chris singing with a vocal growl is one of my favorite parts of his voice and it’s completely underrated! Fun facts: (1) The older women singing next to Mercedes in Like a Prayer is Amber’s mom. (2) Kevin McHale is doing his Ryan Murphy impression right as Vogue starts. (3) Vogue was Ryan’s baby and in between takes, they would watch the music video to get it as similar as possible. (4) They had to jump through hoops to change the lyrics in Vogue, but it was definitely worth it! (5) The grinding dancer wearing the cone bra in Vogue was Heather Morris. (Brittney)

I miss those days, lol. I had multiple coworkers who watched the show and we'd talk about the new episodes that came out.

2024-09-26 19:45:23 +0000 UTCJust like Glee was problematic in a lot of ways, it was also ahead of its time in a lot of ways. Tackling sexism and misogyny as well as virginity. I'm not the biggest Madonna fan ever but she does have some amazing hits and is a trailblazer, in sexuality specifically. She's had a huge cultural impact. I don't really vibe with her now, I feel like she's 66 trying to be 26. Anyways, Borderline/Open Your Heart is such an underrated cover. Expresss Yourself is 🔥 and Vogue is iconic but Like a Prayer is my favourite Madonna song and I LOVE this cover. Fun facts: Ryan Murphy had worked with Madonna in the past and wanted to do a tribute to her on the show and she was on board. Before it aired she was sent a copy of the episode and she approved, saying it was brilliant on every level. She also allowed them to have access to her entire music catalogue. This episode won an Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series, while Jane Lynch won an Emmy as well for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in the episode, and Lou A. Eyrich and Marisa Aboitiz were additionally nominated for the Outstanding Costumes for a Series. Ryan said the original plan was to have Tina sing a mash-up of Justify My Love and Erotica but it didn't make the final cut (no surprise there). It was also said there were plans to have a second Madonna episode in S2. Chris Colfer said that this episode was one of the cast's favorite but the hardest to work on. At the end of Like A Prayer, the choir member singing next to Mercedes is Amber Riley's mum. Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan have of course both appeared on the show (though Britney was only in Artie's dream). Plus the shaved head - Brittany in S4. Brittany's line "Mr. Schue, is he your son?" was ad-libbed by Heather Morris. Santana calls Finn "A Cabbage Patch Kid" and ironically, Naya Rivera did ads for Cabbage Patch when she was young. Madonna did NOT write Like a Virgin despite what Brittany says. It was written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. Madonna was the first concert Lea Michele ever attended. Goof: Never noticed this before but during Express Yourself the jackets on the stage floor keep disappearing and reappearing!

She said“ In the Madonna episode, Santana took Finn’s virginity to “Like a Virgin,” and seduction to a song was about as awkward as one might imagine. Cory and I didn’t know each other that well at that point, but I had to crawl up his leg and pull his shirt and throw him on the bed and start grinding. He was supposed to chase me around the bed and pick me up and spin me, but I think he was a little hot-and-bothered/nervous about the whole thing, because everything was a little off. Instead of a slow spin, he picked me up awkwardly and turned around so fast that I practically got whiplash. “Oh, okay . . . ,” Zach would say. “Let’s try that again . . .” 😂 . Her book is amazing! I suggest it!!!
