Well there is literally a video out there of I think Ryan talking about writing this storyline around DrOMP. Just like Roses turn. But your theory does make sense.

2024-09-22 15:47:15 +0000 UTCSorry but I still believe it to be because they needed a reason to have Rachel sing DROMP and they couldn’t have Mercedes sing And I’m Telling You again. Mercedes was very vocal at the beginning of the episode that she was just as talented as Rachel and worked just as hard then they had her backtrack later by saying Rachel is the star and nothing she would sing would be better than Rachel. Why is that? It’s why we see them “rehearsing” songs for competition and then by the time we get to it, they’re singing 2-3 “new” songs. The writers/Ryan on Glee are not subtle when it comes to certain things.

2024-09-22 06:53:25 +0000 UTCYeah, but let's look at Mercedes as we know her right now. Until this point she'd never done any singing like at a competition. We don't think she's done theater and as we know from the flashback episode in season 6, she sings in church. That could mean Mercedes was too scared at this point in time to belt in on the fly. Season two and definitely season 3 she'd be able to do it. We know that at least Rachel had been winning singing and dancing competitions since she was child. I really think I'm thinking too much into this, because they definitely only wanted to show that Amber can sing, but that Rachel is still the main character of the show, so she gets the day saving performance.

2024-09-21 19:21:17 +0000 UTCHonestly I think the only reason they did this whole leak the setlist thing is because at the time, they never reused (recorded) songs so they had to find a reason to have them do brand new songs for the competition. It was kind of ridiculous that Mercedes couldn’t “belt it on the fly” and that she only had the one song. Rachel was basically giving her solo to Mercedes and Mercedes turned around and gave it back to Rachel which kind of negated her whole argument earlier about being just as talented as Rachel.

They just went into a competition where they had to come up with their set list last minute and Rachel pulled out a full performance few minutes before, and they were able to win because of it. Since they'd only done one competition they don't grasp that they can rely on more people not just Rachel. I give season one that grace period, once they're in season two though I don't think they can try and make that argument, because now they all have a year under their belts and thus are more confident.

The only St. Berry duet I actually like is Listen to Your Heart but Jon Groff and Lea’s voices are some of the most compatible of the show! Not to mention their chemistry is great because of their real friendship. Special shoutout to the writers still pushing the agenda of the club having no chance at winning without Rachel, completely forgetting about AIATY last episode. 🙄 For the first time, I have no fun facts to tell.☹️

That pairing was certainly better than Shelby and Puck 🤢 Though Emma was being super mature, I don't think it's fair to put her OCD issues in the same box as Terri's abuse. Also, you just have to remind yourself these are teenagers and their hormones are crazy, but yeah Finn was being a dick, and while Jesse was indeed using her, I think he and the other Glee kids could have been more supportive of Rachel. The chemistry between Lea and Jonathan is undeniable, but so is the chemistry between Lea and Cory. Sue is just so gross for doing that to Figgins (though it's implied she didn't actually do anything, just made it look that way, but still). Santana and Brittany remind me so much of the Siamese cats from Lady and the Tramp. I wonder if that was intentional lol. And yeah, Puck was gross and even though he did have growth in the later seasons he still did some questionable things (like dating Kitty). Fun facts: Ryan Murphy later released a deleted scene/number featuring Rachel and Jesse singing Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love from A Chorus Line in Rachel's bedroom: https://youtu.be/tIlT0u2zB0s?si=Kxrl6lE0Wxig0TY7. The pinky holding that Brittany and Santana do was Naya's and Heather's idea. Chris Colfer has said that the phone thing happened to him in real life but joked it was when his dad was calling. Plot hole? It is never explained how Emma got her job back after resigning in the previous episode.
