Woh so much drama that I had no idea about hahah! Yea I could see how they were family but since they were also young and working together , it would only make sense that there was a good amount of drama

Maybe it’s because Ryan was more upfront truthfully and risky with what he said. 🤔

Yes that’s really terrible what it would be like to grieve and be fully NEGATIVELY judged by everything you did no matter what. Just terrible.

I actually did not know a lot of these things either before the podcast, at least regarding to everything that happened behind the scenes. But as someone who watched the show from the beginning, it was HUGE. I mean, it was on Beatlemania level, I am not even kidding. The cast were like rockstars. I remember being so sad not being able to see them tour because they mainly toured around the US and a little in UK/Ireland. I was OBSESSED with the show, the characters, the music, the cast. Everything.
But yeah, it's interesting hearing them talk about how close they were. I think people forget /don't know that it was such a shock when Cory died, but even before that, there was so much stuff going on and nobody knew how to deal with it. Fans like to crap on Ryan and a lot of the time it is justified, but they don't take time to think how hard this must've been for him too. And all the writers and the crew. On top of that, they had to deal with all the criticsm, the rumours and the grief IN PUBLIC. I really hate when people talk about some kind of "Glee curse". There is no curse. Because, as they said, there were also so many good times. And the majority of the cast and crew is alive and well and absolutely thriving, whether that is personally or professionally or both.
It's kind of poetic/ironic how Cory's death kind of killed the show/tore them apart in a lot of ways and Naya's death brought them together. I know the writing had gone downhill even before Cory died but the show was not the same without him. He was the heart of the show. As a fan I felt that too. There was just something missing. It didn't feel right. And in hindsight they probably ahould have just cancelled the show or at least waited to do/not done the tribute episode. They literally went back to work not even a month after his death. And I know it was ultimately Lea's decision but she was still grieving. They all were. Yet they were forced to talk about it in interviews and stuff. It really is horrible the way the media and even some fans felt they had a right to harass them while in the middle of the grieving process. It was especially hard for Lea. It was like damned if you do, damned if you don't. They wanted to see her publicly grieve but when she did she was "milking" his death. They wanted her to move on but when she did she was accused of getting over him "too quickly". They wanted her to stop sulking but when she went back to work it was "too soon". It was just hopeless. I don't care even if Lea really was/is as horrible as people say, she did NOT deserve any of that. She lost the man she loved and couldn't even grieve or move on in peace. Also, I really do believe she has changed and matured, especially after becoming a mother.

I really loved watching you react to the podcast ! I hope you do more . I know it is a pain to edit out the ads. I actually find some of the ads disturbing . I am probably not the only one . I just muted the video when the ads were happening .If you do more could you maybe give us a thumbs up when the ads are done ?

I mean we for sure know Jenna and Naya were both suspended.. Cory, rip, was abusing substances while working. And I'm sure he was not the only one, bc we know what they said about the "Blame it" episode. I think even Heather mentioned she was not doing well at some point (i'm pretty sure she eluded to drug use). Naya keyed Mark's car and although he probably deserved it, it's still a very messy story. I think no one on that set, or in life, is a saint. Just that some stories are covered up, or overlooked by bigger things. but I'm pretty sure Lea being a diva and plainly awful after Cory passed, is far from the biggest story. Just that the other ones are way too dark, or painful, to talk about.

I think their podcast can be very interesting when they have some guests, but most episodes are boring.. When they received "prestigious" guests like Ryan Murphy it's so good ! Or when they had Lea on their old podcast it was so nostalgic, they were reminiscing on the pilot (first ep of the showmance podcast). Or when they had Naya and Heather on that same podcast, so good ! But then, so many episodes are them not remembering the storylines, being very biased on characters (rightfully so, they were on glee, but it's still annoying bc no Artie and Tina didn't deserve more, sorry.), or won't say anything wrong about certain characters (ex : Santana) bc it's their friends in real life, and bc they love her so much.. Or them inviting Amber, Harry or Chris to tell the same stories over and over again (love them, but nothing new or interesting lol) I don't know.. I have very mixed emotions about their podcast, but I have to say that the Ryan one is extremely good and interesting.

Love this comment. I think a lot of blame was put on Lea for creating a bad work environment. And while she’s no saint and def had issues. I do think people forget or don’t know that SOO many people created issues on that set and had ego problems. I mean multiple people were “suspended” for a couple episodes. Jenna has even come out and said that she was a diva and ended up having to take a break. And although Lea is not my favorite person and has her own issues. I hate that she’s seen as being the only problem child. When we all know everyone had their issues.

the cast & crew were all very close. from working all day every day together, in rehearsal, recording music, doing tours, press, award shows... to partying, friendships, romance, break up, drama, scandals.. it was a big family, with all the good and bad.
It is very known that the original s1&2 cast was so so close. and even tho most big stories people remember are for example Cory and Lea dating, rumours around Jenna and Kevin dating, Lea and Naya feud, or even Dianna allegedly not wanting to be part of glee anymore..
What people forget are for example : Kevin being shipped with lots of his cast mates before coming out publicly, or even Chris having to come out, the cast's very messy drunk nights captured by paparazzi, Mark and Naya dating and very messy break up, Naya dating newbie in the cast Chord right after Mark and the mess it was in the media, the girls putting their foot down during the Michael episode in season 3 bc they were overworked and SO tired, Jenna being absent of that ep bc she "needed a break", Ryan saying the boys had way more drama than the girls (although all the media wanted was to create drama with the girls), Lea and Dianna living together for a few years and then getting distant, it being "implied" that the drinking ep was inspired by the cast and some of them actually being under the influence during episodes, the old cast not being very welcoming to the new cast, Naya saying pretty much everyone was hooking up with everyone, or as Ryan said addiction, unwanted pregnancies, abuse...
I won't assume anything but just say that it seems the cast was very young, very close, and enjoyed partying a little too much at times.. the set was just not the most professional and once the first "downs" hit, the "we are one big family and we love eachother" speech didn't work anymore..
it really seem that the first loss they experienced was what broke them, but the last one was what got them back together.. as sad as this is, it's also kind of beautiful at the same time.
Also, I think what people tend to forget is that yes we have lots of talented people and very interesting characters, but the show is not written to be an "ensemble cast" type of show. It is very much implied on the first episode that the main characters are : Rachel, Finn, Schue. The other ones are more so "side characters" that got lots of storylines to shine. But I think what messed up the cast was that some people thought they deserved that "main character" type of title and treatment. Or that some of the "back of the class" character got more popular, screentime and storylines over the years, than some of the original crew. For example, at the start of the show, you wouldn't think Santana, Sue or Blaine would have more screentime, love, songs or storylines than Quinn, Mercedes or Tina. And I know they won't say it bc they have their own little clique and won't be shady in public (especially so many years later), but it is very much known than some part of the OG 6 crew (apart from Lea and Cory who were actually main characters) were jealous that some "newer faces" got more screentime than others.. Like of course Lea is the one that sang most songs over the course of 6 seasons while being the main character. But at the same time, Brittany sang more than Quinn, Blaine sang more than Kurt, Sam sang more than Tina.. I don't see a world what that doesn't get messy behind the scenes lol

And Kevin doesn’t follow her at all. I think it’s a situation that we are never going to know the details off.

I have a sneaky feeling that a lot of the cast are more in contact with Lea than we think. I think it’s just not publicized because people on the internet are sooo against her. But like jenna, Diana, chord, darren and the podcast follow her on socials and like her posts. And obviously we know her an John and Becca are very close too. Idk I’m so intrigued by the dynamic 😂😂 cause it seems like Chris and Amber have nothing nice to say about her but then on the podcast they only talk positively about her. Hmmm

I was in the 9th grade when Glee season 1 was airing. I remember being in English class and a girl asking our teacher if she watched Glee, and she said she really enjoyed the “funny cheerleading coach.” My speech teacher was also the theatre teacher and her classroom was plastered with all the Glee kids’ posters with the L sign over their faces. I remember thinking how bizarre that was - like who in their right mind would watch a show about all these “losers” that I’m seeing on these walls? As someone who was bullied for so many reasons the Glee kids were, I had no idea what was lying in store when I finally started watching the summer before season 2 aired. It really saved my life and continued to do so. And even now with this resurgence like your reaction series! It really do miss the height of the phenomenon back in season 2, but even by the dwindled fandom in season 6, I always just loved the underdog story and am so grateful for Ryan, Ian, and Brad’s creation.

Yeah, glee was HUGE! For years, Elvis held the record of most hits on the Hot Billboard 100 list, but glee beat his record by 99 songs in February of 2011 with 207 songs. Then Drake beat their record by 1 song in 2020 and Tayler Swift pushed them to 3rd place last year at 263 songs. But the fact that they were a tv cover band who is still in the top 3 of all time is insane. As Chris Colfer said multiple times; at peak fame, they felt like the Beatles. They won the PCA for best new comedy after only being on air for 13 episodes! And out of 32 Emmy nominations, they had 6 wins. (Though Chris and Dot shouldn’t won at least once.)
Overall, it had 194 nominations and 78 wins across all award ceremonies.
They still consider themselves a family. Of course many don’t have much contact with Lea anymore, but they once said that families don’t always get along but they will always have each other’s backs. 🥰 Can’t wait for part 2! Also, mentioning again the glee biography document on YT. It’s goes into detail on the overall process of creating the show to casting and filming it to taking off. Definitely an asset to this rewatch.
When I say that glee was truly a once-in-a lifetime show that will stand the test of time, I’m completely serious. No other show, whether it’s a reboot or new show with glee ideas will ever come close to the og. And full honesty, I actually enjoy the last seasons and the Jigsue episode is my glee guilty pleasure. 🫣 To this day, it’s still the 2nd biggest thing that Fox has done. After the Simpsons of course. Which they were in an episode of!

I remember watching a screening of the Pilot at an outdoor stage at one of our local high schools here in LA—before it aired I’m pretty sure. The place was packed!!
I’ve actually never listened to the podcast before. So glad you’re doing this. For a while I’ve had a nagging negative view of Ryan (I don’t even know where it came from honestly) — so it’s really wonderful to hear their conversation. It makes me really like him and how vulnerable and thoughtful and candid he is. Really appreciating his perspective — and love hearing about the bond they all had. Makes the show even better! 🤍

Also Stevie Nicks said in an interview something along the lines of “ there are those days that you will remember for the rest of your life. And my day at glee will be one of those.” and I think that just goes to show what kind of energy and joy this show and the environment was. That an international rockstar who is traveled the world gotten to meet royalty and do almost anything you could imagine, is saying that her day at glee was one of the most impactful. Crazy

I don’t know exactly WHAT record they broke but they had beaten out the Beatles and Elvis for holding records on the chart. When I tell you glee was the BIGGEST thing on tv. No joke. All those musical episodes you see like greys and Riverdale are all direct results of glees success. Everyone wanted to do a musical episode because of how successful it was.
