Taylor uses a storytelling technique called progressive disclosure. Instead of giving you all information, she develops her songs through images, let's call them crumbles, that listeners follow and collect as the song progresses. The repetitions of key lyrics work as ancor points, and at each turn you know a little bit more about the story as a new meaning or nuance gets layered.
