Should Lea Replace Beanie?

Now that Beanie is leaving Funny Girl, do you think Lea Michelle should be her replacement?

I’m excited to hear your reasons…

Comments

ABSOLUTELY!

Guillermo Orozco

I think that Beanie should be replaced by her understudy/standby.. I haven’t seen the show myself, but I’ve heard from the theater community that she is phenomenal and she deserves this chance to shine and make a name for herself.

Jessica Lyme

She’s perfect for the role. I just hope she’s matured and grown into a better person since those stories came out…

Lauryn Shealy

No. She has a beautiful voice but she sounds like an absolute nightmare to work with. Maybe she's matured, but she's going to have to work hard to show it; and I feel like the musical will pay the price for her bad rep.

This role is perfect for her and will give her many fans a place to enjoy her beautiful voice and underrated acting skills.

I think Lea should replace Beanie. She has matured and I believe learned from her past issues. I think she was someone that was driven and expected perfection from herself and her cast mates.

Agree. Sure she’s talented and experienced and it would be super entertaining to see her in this role. However, her coworkers have made it clear what she is like to work with (traumatizing ffs). Until she demonstrates major change (besides having a baby lol) she is a toxic coworker and I’d avoid working with her.

Bec

No, I don’t think Lea Michele should be her replacement because she sounds awful to work with and I wouldn’t do that to the current cast. The last thing they need now is someone with a reputation for traumatizing coworkers in the lead. I’d personally love to see her in this role, but not until she’s demonstrated that she can do it without damaging coworkers.

My quick two cents: No, for Lea. I think it would bolster her already overly entitled sense of self that she presents to the public and apparently in private. A great replacement choice for me is SHOSHANA BEAN!! Just nominated for a Tony and she’s played Fanny before in some smaller productions. She killed it, apparently. If not Shoshana, then the understudy.. give her shot, make a new star!!

So after some reflection about what happened between myself and some others. We all have a right to our own opinions, and we can absolutely disagree, I don't think now that this was the place for it and I apologize for more to Audrey for that happening on my behalf. This is not twitter 2020, I don't know why it becomes what it becomes. I felt I was defending her second chance, not her behavior. I choose to wait and see if she changed by observation, and I can't do that if she doesn't get a second chance from producers whether it be television or broadway. I also choose not to believe second-hand stories, my grandmother always said to me, believe half of what you see and none of what you read or hear. Meaning take it all with a grain of salt. But again these are my feelings and opinions and I don't say others have to feel the same way. Please understand that. Some people do jump on bandwagons when drama occurs. Just how it is. So with that my answer is no I don't think she should play Fanny. I believe she should go to another show and make it her own. Let the understudy have her moment in the sun a little longer, and give her a chance to be a star in another show someday. This can help her get starring roles later even if the play is bad. Lea is established and can go star in another play and make it her own. and maybe not something that was on glee for her character. I think she needs to separate herself from Glee and Ryan Murphy productions for a while.

Yeah some are definitely are being a little too kind/forgiving. The rumors of Lea's rudeness, attitude, and antics have dated back to when she was a kid on Broadway and were as recent as the most recent show she was on The Mayor. It isn't just a Glee situation I don't know why some are minimizing to just that. If you want to say anything about Glee it was Naya that was the first to say something about Lea's antics. Then in 2020 Samantha Ware (who was the character Jane from Season 6 of Glee) said something and multiple Glee cast members/crew members cosigned what she was saying about Lea with some people from Broadway as well as some actors from other shows Lea acted on were also agreeing with what Samantha said and/or were telling their stories about their bad experiences with Lea. All that being said would I be shocked if Lea got the role I actually wouldn't. I personally would feel like it would be stunt casting though. Yes Lea can sing the Funny Girl songs but there is a years long controversy surrounding her and they would be taking advantage of that. Lea could've changed her attitude since she has become a mother but I honestly don't know.

I think people are being a little too kind about Lea here. I get that we don’t technically know her and that we DO know her talent, but everything points to her being a terrible person. The allegations about her were not just from Glee, but all the way back to when she was freaking 11 on Broadway doing Ragtime. They also are as recent as her stint on The Mayor. And if her black co-stars and people that worked with her said that her horrible comments and behavior were racially charged microaggressions, then they were. And for her not to even remember a lot of the specific instances people called her out for is even worse. So, you know, can she do the role? Sure, absolutely. Should she get the opportunity to do the role? Absolutely not.

I want to believe that she has turned over a new leaf but with as intrinsically connected Funny Girl is to Glee, her character, and to the previous allegations of her bad behavior on set, I do not think that it would be a good move her professionally to play Fanny now. I do think, though, that it is time for her to move on to some other show and to see her make her mark on it and absolutely excel at it. She was born to star on Broadway and I would love to see her perform!

Hello friends....I enjoy reading the comments some I agree with some I don't but either way I like the chatting. When I read her apology post that was everywhere my hope/beliefe is this for what it's worth. I watched an interview with Shuster/Sylvester from 6 or 7 months ago, and they both said that the "kids" worked non-stop on the show, then the back to back Glee tours for 4/5 years straight, and many of them went from normal to insane celebrity status over night. Then Cory was fighting addiction which can be painful full for their loved ones as well then he died and for her her died twice because she had to relive the whole thing while singing on the show. From what I've read he was her heart and soul and after that is when things got really rough on set, (obviously I wasn't there but from what we have all read about it, seems fairly accurate). Fast forward she posts something to show her support to a cause, and then the responses blow up in her face.. Maybe the responses she got caused her to stop and think about her treatment of others and how her actions and behaviors were cruel to someone of the same race she was (now an adult, and no longer hurting over Cory, or being a brat/diva) wanting to show support for and had compassion for. It's possible she didnt realize or think about how her words may have been heard until they told her. Either way, only the people who were present will ever know what she said or what she did. I've been judgmental in my life a time or 2 about things I had no knowledge of or background for, so now that I'm older I try to give the benefit of the doubt and not be too quick to condemn.
