GLEE S02E10 WATCH PARTY

Merry Christmas darling was by Karen Carpenter - check it out if you haven't. Karen Carpenter had one of the most beautiful voices ever!

Nate

It's really hard to be on Finn's side knowing what he is about to do...

Lucile Byrd

I don't know if it's just me, but I totally get that Rachel kissed Puck, but I feel like when Finn looked at Santana and after Santana told Rachel that Finn bought her food after, it was kinda mean and cheating, and I felt like they weren't together anymore. I don't know why.

Teeja-Adjany Morin

Vernacular changes over time and when Baby it's Cold Outside became popularly problematic I read up a bit on it. And, from what I remember a lot of the phrases that are used that seem kind of date-rapey now (say, what's in this drink?) were supposedly more along the lines of oops excuse to misbehave and like a faux excuse. I can't remember where I read it or how accurate it is, but it kind of makes sense for the time period. Kind of how some people joke about how tequila is supposed to make them a great dancer and fun and energetic and not the hot mess they end up as? Blame it on the juice? It's kind of an offhanded I know I'm doing something bad, but tomorrow I'm just going to say it's because of xyz. WHICH IS STILL PROBLAMATIC, but yeah... less literal

On the Pitch Perfect 3 Soundtrack they added a bunch of Christmas Songs (idk other than the movie seemed to have less music than the previous ones?). I don't think there's an official video (I could be wrong), but Kelly Jakle and Shelley Regner (Jessica and Ashley--the two that barely speak and everyone confuses) sing a version of Baby it's Cold Outside that is awesome. They rarely get to show off their vocals in the movies (unless you squint) and this gives them a chance to really shine. Kelly did a cappella irl and her school career in it pretty much is the first two movies. She's amazing and has other videos. But they're both fantastic and didn't get nearly enough credit in the movies.

"You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is sung by k.d. lang!!

Lucy F

no way!!!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Lea choked on fake snow during let it go and threw up on stage

Caroline S

Audrey, you seemed very confused by some of the lines during Most Wonderful day of the year ("spotted elephant, square wheels", ect) but the song came from the 1960's claymation Rudolph special and those were original lines in the song.

meeting_meghan

i honestly love how Brittany is one of the "dumbest" and most childish character in tv show history lol i think in a show like glee, where you have Rachel, Kurt, Mercedes, Blaine, Santana.. and everyone is taking themselves too seriously, Brittany is just a bright pause from their teen drama! and some of what she says is so disconnected from the reality/you wouldn't even think someone could think like that, and it just makes me crack up!! also i love that Heather Morris improvised some of Brittany's most iconic lines

leslie martin

i think you should definitely react to "god rest ye gentlemen" it's sung by the glee girls and it's absolutely beautiful! we only had the audio version bc it was cut from the christmas episode but it's truly one of the most performance they ever did and all their voices are incredible in this

leslie martin

i'm absolutely not in the christmas mood but i'll still be watching this lol

leslie martin

Don't forget, Rachel is all about show choir and Broadway. She has a full book of songs that she has rehearsed and rehearsed and rehearsed her whole life. She's not going to narrow her repertoire by not knowing Christmas songs. Plus, she idolizes Barbra Streisand who recorded one of the best Christmas albums I've ever heard.

Carleen

I totally forgot about that!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Rachel cheating on Finn is super annoying and I can see why he’s upset, but he also cheated on Quinn in the pilot with Rachel 😬

Rheannon

I can't wait for her to get to Rumors and Original Song!!!! Those are my favorite season 2 episodes!!!!

Lydia Shepard

That would be amazing. It’s about to get real good, at least to me.. episodes 14-19 made me the gleek I still am today!!

Amber Harrison

I might have to have a few drinks for those!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Can't wait for you to watch season 2 episodes 14 "Blame it on the alcohol" and 15 "Sexy" two of my favorite episodes! 🙌🏾

Sabrina Louis

As far as I can remember, Dianna Agron, a practicing Jew, chose not to participate in the recording of Christmas songs or if she did it was very minimal. Lea Michele, a practicing Catholic, had no such issue personally. Character wise it doesn’t make much sense. I doubt Rachel would have even known any Christmas songs 🤷🏻‍♀️

JustAlyssa87

Yea i thought that was a little off with Rachel singing so many Christmas songs.

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

No. My plans are to stay at one a week. It’s all about the journey, not the finish line ;)

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I could totally see how you could think that!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

This episode makes me fuzzy inside. I was a teenager when Glee came out, and I, much like Brittany, fully believed in Santa. Frankly, I believed until I was probably around 20 and saw my mom's "Santa" list on the computer desk. But somehow despite everything and everyone saying Santa wasn't real, I believed it was, and it still feels good seeing that in a character. On the music side of things, the songs are good, but I hate that in the studio versions, Dianna's parts were given to Chris Colfer. There's only one song on the Christmas album Dianna took part in, and maybe it's changed now, but back on the actual CD insert thing, she wasn't even credited. I always found it interesting how Lea's character was Jewish and got tons of songs, but Dianna who's Jewish in real life but plays a Christian character, did not. It could have been personal choice of course, it's just interesting. Rachel always seems fixated on Christmas in the Christmas episodes and it's just weird that they didn't do a whole lot in terms of showcasing one of Rachel's religious holidays.

Megan Christina

Do you think you will ever do more than one episode a week?

Sam jaeger

fun fact i used to listen to the glee christmas playlist years before i actually ever watched the show and when i heard baby it’s cold outside i thought kurt’s voice was a woman 😭

fry

just realized in the most wonderful day of the year they had quinn sing kurt’s part cause he wasn’t supposed to be in the new directions but in the studio version it’s his voice

fry

The only thing from the Carpenters I ever remembered was Sing from Sesame Street. I remember when Karen Died, and the made for tv movie about her life and eating disorder. Her voice definitely was soothing on Sing as well. I wish Glee did this song too.

KJ Dogmom

You also reviewed one song from the next episode already with Danny. 😉 Just to add I love the grinch but this aired the same year the movie with Jim Carrey, Taylor Momsen and Christine Baranski came out. 2011 was the year of the Grinch :)

KJ Dogmom

I love this episode too. I never fail to tear up every time I watch this episode. Coach Beiste is my favorite teacher at McKinley. Probably one of the only faculty members who didn't make me cringe at one point or another during the series. My favorite song from this episode was Welcome Christmas. I just think that it's absolutely beautiful and the harmonies are amazing. I like that they worked so hard to keep Brittany's Christmas Spirit. I lost touch with that in my life and ever since my nieces and nephews were born, that spirit was reborn I have done all that I can to keep that spirit of believing alive for them as long as I can because real life will eventually hit them in several different ways and I feel like it's nice to have at least one realm of hope and belief (Sorry for the long rant, I guess my therapist side sort of crept in there). Anyways, I love the Glee holiday soundtracks (there are so many songs that they recorded that didn't make it into the episodes). Looking forward to the Sue Sylvester Shuffle! So many people threw Superbowl parties that year so that they could stay and watch Glee afterwards

Gemma Rivera

Awww Glee’s first Christmas episode! I enjoyed this one and season 3’s Christmas episode a lot, after that they were kinda eh. The song Merry Christmas, Darling was originally sung by Karen Carpenter. I grew up listening to the Carpenter Christmas album because of my mom, that song is one of my favorites! I definitely recommend the album. Lea did a good job with it, but I like Karen Carpenter’s version better, it’s more soothing. This episode overall is such a feel-good and wholesome one. And it’s funny that you mention singing in fake snow being a problem, because it definitely was for someone during season 6 and she definitely choked on it and threw up 😂 Sue Sylvester Shuffle is great! It was a follow up to the Superbowl! Glee had its largest lead in audience because of it, with 24 million viewers! I don’t think they all watched it on purpose, I definitely did though lol.

JustAlyssa87

I love this episode, One sue as the grinch, thought that was genius. KD lang and Matthew Morrison sang the grinch song, you're a mean one, Sue the grinch. But only KD was on this version. I do think they took it a little far with Brittany's Naivety personality. The character was supposed to be the dumb stereotypical blonde, I don't know about Naive. The Sue Sylvester Shuffle you saw is next, Sue is at her best...Can't wait for you to watch it. It actually aired directly after the Superbowl in 2011. Which explains why a high school football team would be playing football in January.
