I love that your therapist recommended such a good movie. What a great way to look into yourself. Sounds like you have a good therapist <3

So late to the party here, but I love this movie! My therapist recommended it to me because she saw a lot of Luisa in me as someone who handles the emotional burden of my family and is forced to stay strong to support everyone else. I think we can all find ourselves somewhere in the family dynamic. I am not sure if you've heard of the live Hollywood Bowl special. It's on the Disney platform. It's a lot of fun! You may even consider some reactions to it! Along with very clear Hamilton influences you mentioned, I hear Rent and the Little Mermaid in some of the songs (especially the last 2).

It won't play :(

Late to the party but I fully believe that Mirabel didn't receive a gift when she was younger because she is the gift, she's her abuelas counterpart. Where as her abuela looked at the family and see their gifts and saw them as perfection Mirabel saw everyones flaws and allowed them to be vulnerable. The family needs both to survive and we saw that when the two splintered and abuela was overpowering Mirabel that the house splintered and when they were able to come together the house thrived again

I've watched Encanto a bazillion times and I still ugly cry when Mirabel finally gets her door she deserves lol

My favorite part of Encanto is that Dolores never questions why she can hear rats doing telenovelas in the walls.

Jack Grant

Yes!!! I thought I recognized her!

Ooh yay!! Thanks!

Alex

Oh that’s a great idea! I’ll add it to my list.

I love these watch parties! Do you think one day, you could do a watch party for the 25th anniversary Phantom of the Opera pro shot?

Alex

In "Surface Pressure" - I love that 1) the ship is called Madrigal (so many layers to unpack with that), 2) Luisa sings "line up the dominoes, a light wind blows" while a TORNADO is heading toward her, 3) the line "Give it to your sister and never wonder if the same pressure would have pulled you under," and 4) the donkeys - they need their own spin-off movie.

Mirabel didn't get a door at all. She is still living in the nursery. At 15. The speaking voice of Abuela is María Cecilia Botero - a Columbian actress. The singing voice of Abuela is Olga Merediz. You may most easily recognize her from In the Heights when she played another Abuela - Abuela Claudia. (She sang "Paciencia y Fe". )
