Christmas Poll Winner
Added 2024-12-13 06:41:39 +0000 UTCWell, Macross won the poll! I am in the process of illustrating a nice space montage of the Macross and assorted Valkyries and obscene amounts of detail.
To help in the composition of the image, I modelled this quick low poly Macross so I could pose it and get a nice imposing reference shot of it. The left arm is a bit broken as you can see!
One thing I suspsected but confirmed on this one is that the Macross is actually pretty small! We seem to imagine that's it's enormous because it has a city inside it, but it's only the length of 4 aircraft carriers!
I'm not sure how they manage to squeeze a whole town in there with highways and stuff..!
My favourite Macross show is Macross 7, and in that one things make a bit more sense, as it features the "New Macross Class" colonisation ship which pulls a big ass city section behind it that is about 5x5 miles in size and actually fits a small city inside, complete with skyscrapers and everything else:
Still technically kind of small, as my hometown of Lincoln in the UK is 13x13 miles, and it's hardly the biggest city around.
Anyway, enough of these musings! I shall get started on the postcard print.

I loved the idea of a city inside the SDF, but certainly, as I got older, I realized it wasn't possible to have a city that big inside it. The skyscrapers in Macross 7 make sense as it makes use of the space better, but having "old parts of town" inside didn't. Still, the idea is awesome.
