82) Razzberry Reference Sheet
Added 2023-04-28 14:53:58 +0000 UTCLadyGValentine returns for another reference sheet! This time its of Razzberry, our beloved enchanted silkwyrm! Razz took some time getting right for awhile and while he is THE MOST DIFFICULT character to animate, he is also the most fun to problem-solve and figure out.
Razz's design was inspired by old Rareware characters from the Nintendo-64 era of games. Im a big Banjo-Kazooie fan so his connection w/ Pai felt pretty natural to mess around with. I didnt want to copy, (I never do) so I spent time not only referencing old Rare games but also pulling from my own life, likes and where I was going with this story in order to separate it from the original inspiration. In that way, I look at Razz less like a pet and more like a companion or even a partner/Pokemon.
Thats the difference between inspiration and a simple ripoff, in my opinion. You cant just use what other people made before you. You have to instill what makes you YOU and choose to innovate, maybe take it a step further. Otherwise you are no different than a simple machine that spits out redundant imagery.
