Chapter 3 - DevLog 4

How you doing? I hope everything is all right on your side! :)

Visual and rendering:

There's not much to talk about in this section today. Rendering runs continuously. Sometimes I stop it to create and add some new images. As you know, I only have one PC, so I'm trying to find some balance between rendering and creating. Sometimes it bores me, but it is what it is. However, the results still look pretty good. I'm glad we were able to move forward visually.

Writing:

This part is much better. I finished some things yesterday, and it's safe to say that about 40% of the script is complete. Some scenes would deserve a very long dialogue and many images, but I don't want anyone to die of boredom, so I try to control myself while writing. One of the things that changed my view of the game a lot, and I feel pretty good about it, is choices. As I mentioned before, not all of them mean something, and not all of them are somehow important. But what I've had the chance to see so far is that it's quite different this time. I like that it's not all about endless clicking through scenes, but that you, as a player, are directly involved in those conversations. Sure, this is also one of those things where I try not to overdo it, but it looks good. I didn't feel that I was bored, and I would like to focus on this part of the game much more in the future. Of course, choices that will allow the player to bend the course of the game will probably always be there, but I don't see a problem in doing something more.

That's all for now. Thank you for your support, even when I make a few mistakes

Something not related to the devlog, but I want to mention it

Some of you may have seen one custom render that I shared on the Discord server. It's my second project, which I've never talked about publicly, but I had a few questions in DMs, so I thought I could write something about it.

The name of the project is "BREATHE". This project was never in development. Sometimes you will experience moments when you just don't want to work on your game because you have no ideas, are not creative, or are simply tired. In order to stay somewhat in touch with the development despite this, I've been writing this second project of mine since the release of Chapter 1. More or less, I used it as a project where I could improve my English, discover ways to do some stuff, etc. I'm still gaining a lot of experience with BT, and I wanted it to be used somewhere. Breathe is also focused on the story, although not as emotional and depressing as BT, but at the same time, I would say that it's about 50/50 with adult content. BT won't be in development forever, and I'd like to continue with a project that is really very well prepared and thought out from start to finish. However, it's not something I'm actively pursuing right now. BT is a priority.

Comments

Thanks for the update. I don't mind long dialogue; I actually enjoy it. I didn't see the render, but it makes sense to work on other projects (to take a break from, to resist burning out from working on one game too much, to get the creative juice flowing, etc.). I see other devs using this tactic.
