Snowing Pine
Added 2024-07-03 14:01:30 +0000 UTCRecently, we’ve been getting a lot of comments around the Patreon reading experience, which unfortunately leaves a lot to be desired, especially on the mobile front.
So we dusted off our programming gloves and Tyr built a website designed for reading DWBS, https://snowingpine.com/ . We implemented Patreon OAUTH, which effectively lets you use your Patreon account to log in. You’ll have access to the same content as what we post on Patreon, but with a far more user-friendly reader.
Also, the website is 1 chapter ahead from Patreon! Enjoy~

Our current features include:
Patreon Login
Light Mode
Parchment Mode (Beige)
Dark Mode
Change Text Size
Infinite Scroll (Just keep reading until you reach the latest chapter!)
Chapter Bookmark / Progress Saver
On our Roadmap:
Change Fonts
Comments section
Bug Report Form
UI improvements based on user feedback
We hope to see you there! If there are any bugs or suggestions, please comment down below!
EDIT: The issues were due to the api and website checking if you were an authorized user instead of a patreon user, which is a fumble on my part, since all the accounts I used for betatesting were authorized. The issue should now be fixed, hopefully. Please report any bugs as soon as you see em and ill do my best to figure them out as soon as possible! -Tyr
EDIT 19/07/2024: Using a new system now, please register with your patreon email.

As for approaching RR, that's a good idea. We're currently focused on making sure there aren't any bugs but once that's done and we get through our roadmap, that's definitely an option!

2024-07-04 01:48:03 +0000 UTCI'm not sure about Royalroad. But for us, this is a bit of an experiment. It took more than a month to build the prototype and we've been thinking about this since almost the moment we opened up a Patreon almost a year ago.

2024-07-04 01:47:27 +0000 UTCMy real question is if you guys can do this, then why hasn't royalroad.com done so as an extra feature to keep readers on their site? Maybe approach them with some of the code, and they can handle adding it to their site, since so many author's on patreon are already on there and could benefit from it?

2024-07-04 01:27:49 +0000 UTCOh my goodness your site's reading experience is SO MUCH BETTER. I had no idea this is something I needed

2024-07-04 00:14:28 +0000 UTCRight now, our goal is to iron out as many bugs as possible and make sure that everyone has a great reading experience. Haven't thought too far beyond that. I think at some point, we definitely want to open it up to other authors. Not too sure how it would all work just yet - open source would mean that the author needs some level of technical knowledge whereas selling as a service would distract us from writing more DWBS. As for how it's implemented, @tyr's a better person to ask but I believe it's one solid stack. It's janky, but it works.

2024-07-03 23:53:48 +0000 UTCThis is wonderful, Patreon has need this badly and never provided it. Hitting up so many other Creators here that provide chapters via Patreon. Do you have plans to open source, sell as a service, or sell as a framework? Also, I have never looked at the RoyalToad plans. I figured they would implement something like this. Not sure what it is implemented in or its load capacity. Are you using containerization stuff or just a solid stack?

2024-07-03 18:44:05 +0000 UTCOk everything has now been fixed! Edited the post above to provide some clarification. Thanks for finding these bugs! Here's to hopin there won't be more (fingers crossed). Ill get to adding all those other juicy features that we wrote about above now~ -Tyr

2024-07-03 16:16:05 +0000 UTCOk so it looks like there is some kind of issue parsing non authorized users (aka people that dont have special access, like admins) in the system, be right back while I fix this. I gotta love testing every angle and then forgetting that the testing account has special permissions... -Tyr

2024-07-03 15:36:56 +0000 UTCHey, Lyncher, does the problem still persist? Did you log in with the account you have subscribed to this patreon? If you click on the "Profile" button when logged in, can you DM me the info that shows up? Also if you have access to a PC, please send me a screenshot (or preferably a copy paste) of the console logs you see when you press F12? I welcome any other bug report DMs from others as well (Here, or on Discord, wherever it is easier for y'all) It worked well so far, so the fact that it isn't now is leaving me quite stumped... -Tyr

2024-07-03 14:23:39 +0000 UTCI haven't look at the site yet so forgive me if you've already implemented this but here's my suggestion: You should look into creating an 'automatic' bookmark of sorts using cookies or your backend. So when someone visits the sites they can jump straight back to where they had left off instead of trying to remember which chapter they had last read. This is the biggest type of feature that I think patreon is sleeping on.

2024-07-03 14:21:47 +0000 UTCTried logging in. Seems to go through but then leads back to the same starting page. Edit: I see you've fixed it and it seems great!
