Hello All!
We did it! Another month come and gone.
I am delighted to share a full clip of a performance from the previous weekend in Syracuse, NY.
I had such a great time dancing, teaching and meeting everyone. I am thankful for the organizers who make it all happen.
Music is "New Baladi" by Mario Kirlis
Costume by me.
This is an improvisation performance. I usually do not have plans for performances. I much prefer to just go with the flow and mood that day.
Everyone is different. You might find that having a plan helps to relax you and feel more secure and because of this some people prefer performing a choreography. Others, like myself, prefer the freedom of just reacting in the moment. One way is not better than the other it's simply finding the right method for you❤
That being said I am excited for the Introductory tier to start learning a little choreography this coming month, and looking forward to including some floor work into our Drills and practice videos for the Drills and Thrills tier.
If you want to see a dance evolution and thought behind a choice, back in 2010 (I had been dancing 2 years at that point) I performed to this same piece of music "New Baladi". I improvised it but included a combo inspired by a famous Argentinian dancer named Saidi. It was one of my first times performing Baladi progression and I had so much fun with it. I had not used the song or listened to it for awhile so I thought it would be fun to break it out for the event in Syracuse without putting too much thought into it, and see what happens 9 years later. I did watch the 2010 video the night before I performed and was thoughtful of the freedom I had while dancing to it. At the time I honestly did not know what Baladi even meant, I was just reacting to the music. Fortunately I now know what it means but I really wanted to channel and find that same freedom I had then.
You are welcome to watch as the video from 2010 is still on my YouTube Channel. You can find it here https://youtu.be/qAfXKME_B-o
Thank you for your continued support! :)
I am working all weekend but you expect videos for June to be posted starting Tuesday June 4th as well as updated master lists and a full schedule !
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ❤
