"Beverly," by John Fahey

Friends:

I'm excited to be back with the usual monthly post. This month started as a toss up between Skip James and Davy Graham, then morphed into "Beverly." I could sense some disappointment it didn't make the vote last month, so I wanted to get it out there sooner than later.

This transcription is based on the After the Ball recording from 1973. There were a couple video performances to reference so we have some very accurate fingerings in the score. Overall, this one is not very difficult to play, but performance is a different story. Fahey takes us through many shifts in mood, tempo, and is frequently flipping back and forth between straight and swung eighths, all are accurately reflected in the score.

I wanted to try recording in a smaller room and was quite pleased with how the Bozo performed in a tighter space. The tone of the guitar is captured much better here than it was in the Requiem post last month. In honor of the original recording a good amount of reverb was applied, more than I would normally have added.

The score is attached below.

I hope you have a wonderful time going through this one. As usual, please leave comments or questions here. Alternatively, feel free to message me if you prefer.
