Lonnie Johnson
Added 2019-10-01 13:49:04 +0000 UTCUploaded to this post for our Oct 1 issue is an essay that covers a brief history of Lonnie Johnson's career, and an in depth discussion regarding his tunings and the way he strung his guitar. The pdf also includes my sheet music for "Got the Blues for the West End," and a spreadsheet showing the chronology of his recordings and tunings. I'll have more to say on this later, as there have been developments since I wrote this paper many years ago. I hope all of you enjoy, and a tremendous thank you for your current support. We've seen a steady increase in patrons over the last month, and hope to see more joining with each new upload. On Nov. 1st the topic will be Rev. Gary Davis.

I strongly believe he plays those in 5th position and not further down the neck. The suggested fingering in example 1.4 of my paper is what I use for all those runs, and it is the easiest and sounds the most like what he was doing.
