I have zero theories for where this show is going to go other than our lovely prisoner potentially becoming an ally and fighting together against those rat bastards who are scheming against us!

so a little extra context for the ending. Toranaga mentions the base in Macao to bald head father Martin, suggesting that the Catholics not only havent been truthful, but might have alterior motives (like wanting to overthrow the government, as suggested by their gunrunning and supplying the rebellion of the last Shogun) given these ideas of Catholic secret bases, gunrunning and wanting to impose catholic leaders, Toranaga, being the scheming, careful, and deliberate character that he is, needs to confirm these suspicions as true or false, definitively. So he sets a trap, by telling Father Martin that he knows about Macao. The only way Toranaga could have found out about that is from the Anjin, and Toranaga knows that. So, threatened with having all their plans for more power over the world undone by Blackthorn, the Catholics have no choice but to send an assassin, which Toranaga knows, and expects them to do. This is why he had the foresight to swap rooms with Blackthorn. He expected, if what Blackthorn told him was true, that the catholics would send an assassin to kill Blackthorn, because he is the biggest threat to the catholics gaining power over Japan. So by sending an assassin, the Catholics confirmed to Toranaga that, yes they do want to kill Blackthorn, yes they want to kill him because he knows about Catholic bases in territory belonging to direct enemies of Japan, which alone is reason enough to never do business with the Catholics again, and yes they ARE trying to overthrow the government and impose catholic leaders. The writing in this show is absolutely incredible.

So when he said he'll get the flux, he'll get sick Because the water has been still for a long time. Plus they did a bunch of other really unsanitary practices in that era anyway as it was. The Japanese were definitely the much more clean people at the time and honestly still now.
