I thought it was a bit funny that there seemed to be a double standard with Joel sounding supportive when he thought Ellie and Jessie might have a thing for each other on her 16th birthday (with Jessie being four years her senior), and then getting up in arms over Kat, who was only 19 to Ellies 17 ("she's only 17 you know...").

This episode had me emotionally distraught. Like I’ve played the games and knew it was coming for some reason I feel that is what made it worse. Such a good episode. My fav of the season and episode 7 is my second fav either with of course the 3rd being episode 5.

Yes, without the assumption that cure can be made, people gonna just be stuck on whether the cure can be made. This is a fictional story, with fictional characters. So yeah, our beliefs are inconsequential. It's characters' beliefs. It's sprinkled throughout that characters believe the cure can be made - in the game story and in the show. For example, in S1E6, Ellie asked Joel at a campfire before reaching Jackson if Fireflies can create the vaccine. Joel said something like "Marlene is many things. But if Marlene says they can, then they can." Then in S1E9 at the hospital, right after Marlene says something like "they can make a cure and give it to everyone", Joel's reaction is basically the one that believing it and proceed to say "Find someone else"

The debate over whether the Fireflies could have made a cure has continued since the game's release, but Neil Druckmann recently confirmed his *intent* was that they *could* have. That said, like any piece of art, you and others are all free to interpret it however you'd like. :-) Just thought you'd find this interesting: "At the end of the day, however you experience it, if [uncertainty over the cure is what] you took away from it, I can't question that. [...] I can just talk about our intent, [and] that has not been our intent. [...] I remember our conversation was, 'Could the Fireflies make a cure?' and our intent was yes, they could. Now, is our science a little shaky that now people are questioning it? Yeah, it was a little shakey. [...] All I can say is our intent is that they would have made a cure. That makes the most interesting philosophical question for what Joel does." -Neil Druckmann https://youtu.be/O8tOTQhepAI?t=3210s
