The Last of Us 2x02 Full Length Reaction

No, my mic didn't die in the last few minutes. I was rendered physically speechless.

The Last of Us 2x02 Full Length Reaction

Just watched this reaction on Youtube, so I'm hella late...but I just want to say: Your feeling of anger is precisely what was intended. I didn't play the game, but I followed the controversies that this game's storyline caused, and that was something I respected from the writers. I look forward to hearing your opinions in the long run once you see where this is going to go. I won't say anything else so I don't accidentally spoil anything, but yeah...I'll be here after the final episode. I hope we can really have the discussion about the story, your reaction, and your feelings about the choices when you see them all. On a side note...like I said, I didn't play the game, but I knew about Joel's death being the inciting incident in that. What I wasn't sure about is whether or not HBO and the show runners would dare to do something so daring, or at least do it as early as it happened in the game. I was like those you talked to, thinking maybe make it a season 2 finale and make season 3 the rest of the second game's storyline. Or maybe they'd change things completely to keep Internet Zaddy Pedro Pascal on the show. But I was at a friend's place when this episode aired, watching Wrestlemania...and during the main event, here's a Hollywood Reporter notification on my phone "Showrunners dish on that shocking death" and I'm just like...Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge, come on.

A bracelet-level catch.

Trust Neil and Craig's storytelling abilities. All that pain is worth it - eventually. One little glimmer of hope for now: Did you notice the guitar in Ellie's room when Jesse picked her up for the patrol?

DON'T SPOIL IT FOR HER DAMN IT

Others have posted most of this info, but I'll still give you my thoughts: While some of the events were slightly altered (who is with whom, among other things), the core story beats are the same as the game. Most significantly, the game has an even more unconventional narrative structure; it provides the player less context about Abby at this point in the story and has had us play as her for various points before the latter events of this episode. As for your reaction of being livid, that feeling is widely shared among the fanbase. Ignoring the bad-faith actors, the question of whether you love or hate this story is largely based on how the rest of it works for you. It worked for me. This pain was worth it. It isn't for some. I'll be interested to see where you land on it. Lastly, Ashley Johnson, the voice and performance artist who played Ellie in the games, is the one singing the closing song of this episode. It was also the song used for the first teaser trailer of the second game in 2016, four years before its actual release in 2020.
