I may be in the minority when it comes to the Mal/Inara/Nandi thing, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy 'verse.

The Mal/Inara relationship absolutely is such an integral part of the show, and is so complicated, that it it is no surprise that it generates strong and divisive opinion. It’s obvious that they care deeply about each other. It’s also obvious that there are fundamental issues that divide them. It reminds me of the lyric of an old song: “ There ain’t no good guy, there ain’t no bad guy, there’s only you and me and we just disagree”
