HOW DID THEY CANCEL THIS SHOW?!?!?!?!?!?

I honestly didn't want to watch this with you because every time I do I feel exactly the way you describe. I'm angry that it is over because it was so good. And to be honest, Serenity doesn't help to wrap things up. So you are now like the rest of us hoping for a Book prequel or something.

I think there are two directions you could successfully use this property. The first is Firefly the Animated Series. But I think the best would be Zoe's daughter stealing Serenity to go running off on new adventures.

you now know our pain lol

I don't ever see this particular crew ever coming back together again. At this point, especially with the loss of Ron Glass (who I've been a fan of since Barney Miller!), I think it could only go very poorly if they tried. So here's my question: Given what's come out about Joss Whedon in the past few years, if they wanted to make a continuation of the series with another ensemble, should Whedon be involved? If not running the show where he could do more damage, at least as a writer? Or would having him involved at all, even in a capacity in which he couldn't mistreat people, be too toxic to a new effort? And without his touch on any new effort, would a follow-up series be doomed from the outset, or could other writers pull it off? Would there be backlash for NOT having him involved?

You should try “Cowboy Bebop”. It’s space cowboys, but in anime. You’ll be amazed at the parallels to “Firefly”. Highly recommended.

Wecome to the fandom. Best series that got hosed - ever.

Rick

You can see the character development with Simon - he’s spent too much time around Capt Sassy Pants 😂 the snark he delivers this episode is 👌🏻

It has been great revisiting Firefly and experiencing like it was the first time through your reactions. But I have to say that my favorite moments are when you get all 'film school' and talk about lighting, camera work, technique, etc. I think you could literally start over at episode 1 and just deep dive into the details you see about the craft used to make it. I'm on board for when you do the Serenity film. Bring tissues.... I will.

Jubal Early is an interesting antagonist..and certainly very chilling. I at first thought he was Deaf, but he might just be..eccentric or something. an eccentric pychopath. idk, the existentialist themes throughout the episode are also intriguing

I can't tell you how much it fills my heart with joy to see people still finding and loving Firefly 20+ years later, after all the joy it has brought to my life. I was part of the fandom early on, running the SDCC charity fundraiser in 2005, co-organizing the second Browncoat Ball in 2006, and so many other adventures along the way. I have so many lifelong friends I never would have met without this show. I put together the essential "after you finish watching" resource list for another reactor a while ago. The gag reels, the documentary about how the fans helped get the movie made, the creepy-as-fork River Tam Sessions short, and more convention panels than you can shake a stick at. Hopefully this will help you get though the stages of grief over losing such an amazing show. Love the channel, keep flying! https://fanporium.com/temp/lildvds/

Jacqui, you said exactly what we all thought then, and now. FOX had no clue what they had, or what to do with it. I went through a similar struggle with them in dealing with Fringe. Luckily, FOX hard learned a few lessons, and we did get 4 full seasons and a shortened 5th that let them wrap up the series to a reasonable degree. The Browncoat phenomenon that eventually led to Serenity was the successor to the original Trekkies and precursor to fan movements to save other programs, though no one has done it with quite the same ferocity and passion (imo).

Scott

Tarantino would approve of River, and probably did.

Jeff Martens

River is either barefoot, or in combat boots.

Zack benYosef

good question.
