The Pacific Episode 4 Full Length Reaction

Something which I think about is George Carlin's bit in which he talks about the way words and concepts have gotten smoothed out, In WW1 it was called shell shock, In WW2 it was called battle fatigue, Korea it was operational exhaustion, and then in Vietnam it was called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and basically "the pain was completely buried under jargon", his words. I wonder if we called it shell shock how that would change perspectives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSp8IyaKCs0

Don't forget, not only was this year the 80th anniversary of D-Day but it's also the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden 17th - 25th September (covered partly in BoB ep4) and if you want to see a great movie about Market Garden I highly recommend A Bridge Too Far (1977), epic cast!

Thank you for reminding me! I had actually forgotten, since they're not part of the episodes like on BoB. I'll go back and film for this episode, and then make sure to include them going forward.

The Pacific is back!! So glad to see you reacting to this again. Glad to see you're handling the violence and difficult scenes better, compared to the first 2 episodes. Probably have to prepare more tissues from the next episode onwards, though. The show will not stop being unrelenting and it will be more difficult, but also more rewarding, to watch. The second half of The Pacific is some of the most realistic depiction of war I've seen in film/TV but it is amazingly well done. Incredible acting too. The show gets harder to watch but it also gets better and doesn't miss a beat at all. Best of luck and press on! Also, hope you'll post the Episode 4 interview reaction too.

So glad you're back to this series. I think this series does a bit better of a job at showing how hellish a soldier's day to day could be in WW2. In his book Leckie describes the rain as unrelenting and when they were moved to Pavuvu from Gloucester Leckie talks of work details of just removing rotting trees and coconuts and killing rats and crabs for months whilst it rained and rained and rained. The show has his stay at Banika shortened from a month to about two weeks; during that month he received his treatment got to see movies, eat real food, etc. It is also at this point when Leckie is staying at Banika that all three series (BoB, The Pacific, and MotA) intersect as the Normandy landings occur during his last week at Banika.

Finally! I've been paying just waiting for you to get back to these! I know how hard they are but I do hope you keep going consistently now.

Are you still watching the historical background intros?
