Firefly Episode 11 Full Length Reaction

It is almost never highlighted (outside of the War Stories episode) how extremely talented Wash is as a pilot to be doing all of the insane things they do with Serenity in this show. Most of it would be risky, bordering on suicidal, in a helicopter and he's doing it in a SPACESHIP! The entire crew is hyper-competent at their jobs, but you never really have much basis for comparison.

likely as not, theres a part of me which wants to read the comics and books that are supposed to pick up from the series but the other part of me wants to leave it be.

Summer Glau (River) also starred in The Sarah Connor Chronicles, another short-lived series from 2008 that I quite enjoyed.

Well *I* wanna know! :D

'The Sting' is a BOOM! comic (🙄 ok, Graphic Novel 😁) story that features Yo-Saff-Bridge returning yet again. Kind of a 'girl-power' episode if you will... The Dark Horse and then the BOOM! Serenity stories are considered canon, as are the hardcover novels published by Titan Books.

To Jacqui: Now that we're getting close to the end, there's a story(mostly confirmed) that, before the show started filming, the writers sat down individually with most or all of the main cast and gave them a secret for their character. These secrets would become major story arcs much later in the series(had it continued), but the writers were going to plant some seemingly innocuous seed dialogue along the way, and they wanted the actors to use the knowledge of the secrets to inform their performances. And they wanted the secrets kept from the rest of the cast so that same knowledge wouldn't inform those performances. Of the nine main cast, two secrets will be revealed in the time we have left, one or two more have been revealed in convention panels or interviews in the decades since the show ended, one or two can be figured out if you know what to look for, and the last few are completely unknown to me(to the point that I wonder if the writers had just not gotten around to them yet). The first secret can be revealed after the TV series is over because the writers retconned it away for the movie. Are the secrets something you'd like to know because, as an entertainment professional, you'd like a peak behind the curtain into the production of the show? Or would you prefer to remain in the dark and leave it as part of the mystery of a show that never got to be finished?

i think it would have connected to the larger arc about the Companion Houses

Castanea

Absolutely!

I have a feeling that had the show gone on longer she might have had a redemption arc. Either way glad to see more firefly, seeing other people see this series which has meant to much to me since I was a kid is always fun. Additionally the River scene at the end always kills me.

Ah, finally, we’re here at the unaired (in the U.S.) episodes! Saffron definitely had the feel of one of the great recurring Whedon/Minnear-esque side characters, who ideally would be too perfect to not have come back over and over. Saffron really reminds me of a few characters like this in another network show, Nash Bridges, who had regularly recurring rogues and storylines. It’s going to be a fun final few weeks…

Just wondering if you're ever going to get back to The Pacific? It's the only reason I'm paying at this point.

Tom Runge-D'Amore

Gotta love YoSaffBridge.

Love the reaction, as always. It's a shame that the previews made a point to show Saffron, because for a media literate person like yourself, that essentially spoils the fact that she's returning, and kinda ruins the buildup and the moment you see her again. Ah well! Gotta make certain concessions for network TV, I suppose. One fun thing I like to point out in this episode. If you watch closely at 37:10 (on the Youtube recording, the part where Mal sits down next to Saffron) you can actually see Saffron steal his pistol with her left hand, and shuffle it to her right hand behind her back. It's subtle, but it's there. Really neat little shot.

"DVD Box Set", such sweet words to Browncoats! I had never before (nor since) imposed a movie/show enough as to actually gift it for someone to watch. But I purchased and sent the Firefly DVD Box Set to 3 different people across the country soon after I binged it myself.

Network television, folks!

Trash, along with The Message and Heart of Gold never actually aired on Fox, as they only aired 11 of the 14 episodes and played these out of order. Eventually these episodes would be played in the UK and on FX in the U.S. Their absence greatly helped with DVD sales as most fans wanted to see ‘the lost episodes.’ The enormous volume of DVD sales helped justify the financing of the Serenity movie.
