I actually quite like Sokka and Zuko’s actors. I do really like Kataras actress in later episodes though. I usually always give a pass to younger actors especially when they don’t have a lot experience. They can’t always be lucky in getting super talented kids right off the bat. Even the Harry Potter kids weren’t the best at the that age. I still love the movies though.

It’s easy to say that fans of the original show shouldn’t compare the two but that’s almost impossible to do. Obviously many people involved with this have done really good work but the main characters (except for Zuko and Iroh) don’t get me invested in them or the story like in the cartoon. Sokka still kinda works for me because he’s supposed to be a bit awkward. Aang’s actor—well, I hope he improves in the next season. But I was most disappointed with Katara because in her case it’s not just the acting, which didn’t help, but also the way the character is written. In the original she has real fire when angry and can be both kind and bossy. In this show she comes off as extremely bland without any emotional range, even when fighting.
