Band of Brothers 1x10 Full Length Reaction

I can't believe this is the last episode! And yes...I got emotional. You guys know, the sentimental stuff gets to me, and this was a beautiful roller coaster of a conclusion. Than kyou for joining me, and make sure to check out the documentary, dropping next!

Alas, it makes sense. Absolutely tragic, but necessary 😔

That's so cool you got a response! I agree, they were the very definition of heroic, and their humility only reinforces it. Truly remarkable.

About that incident with Spears & the prisoners; the Army had parachuted behind enemy lines; the Americans become imediate targets of the Germans; they had German prisoners, and they were behind enemy lines. Both sides had enemy s around them. the Americans did not have a prison cell for their prisoners, Spears dealt with the prisoners as he had to. That means give 'm a smoke, and then shoot them.

"No, but I served in a company of heroes." That gets me every time, and I respectfully disagree with Major Winters. He was the very definition of a hero in my book. I'm also proud to say that I have a handwritten note from Bill Guarnere. I wrote to him via a website that his grandson created, thanking him and his comrades for their service. Never did I expect to get a response, much less a personal, handwritten one, but I did. In it, "Wild Bill" stressed that he was no hero, that he only did his duty. What a special generation those men and women were.

Here is a video of The Eagle's Nest. The last 5 minutes shows photos. You get to see how gaudy the elevator was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO5tpQjGrG4&t=944s One thing I was amazed is a LOT of detail to history. In this episode that is EXACTLY what the Goerhing house looked like. It was hit by a an Allied bombing raid.

I have always loved this show, in part because of my family history. My paternal Grandfather was a British Army Paratrooper in WWII. He jumped into Normandy on D Day and helped capture Pegasus Bridge. (In episode 2 when you heard the naval guns begin shelling, you immediately assumed they were supporting Omaha beach, forgetting the other 4 invasion beaches.) During Operation Market Garden, he jumped into Arnhem. He fought until the German tank Divisions slowly collapsed the defensive pocket at Oosterbeek. On the last night he got permission to swim the Rhine and link up with with the Polish Parachute Brigade on the South bank. After Arnhem, the 1st Airborne Division was essentially wiped out. My Grandfather officially transferred into the 6th Airborne and helped liberate Bergen-Belsen concentration camp (where Anne Frank died.) He was sent to the Far East to prepare for the invasion of Japan, but did not arrive until after VJ day. (my Dad was also a British Army paratrooper from '69 to '75. The only famous battle he took part in was Bloody Sunday when American funded and supplied terrorists committed mass murder on the streets of Great Britain in a desperate attempt to hijack the Civil Rights movement in Northern Ireland.) My Mother's side of the family all joined the New Zealand Army. As you may know, NZ had the largest percentage of it's population serve overseas of any country in WWII. My maternal Grandfather broke his arm in basic training and was never sent overseas but his two brothers (my Great Uncles) both served in the NZ 2nd Division, the unit that saw the most continuous combat of any unit in WWII. They went through the entire thing, from Greece, Crete (where they destroyed the German airborne capability,) to years back and forth in North Africa (where the Americans finally joined in) then invaded Italy (there is film footage of one of my Great Uncles driving his jeep up the stairs of St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome.) They fought at Monte Cassino (Where Guanere's brother was killed) and eventually invaded Austria. My maternal Gandmother served as a height finder on an Anti Aircraft gun on Godley Head overlooking Lyttleton Harbour. Her claim to fame is that her crew once shot at an Australian plane (fortunately missing it!) because they thought it was Japanese. Strangely enough, I don't have any family who served in the NZ 3rd Division, an amphibious unit who served alongside the US Marines in the Pacific.
