Not only did Blithe not die, but he served for the entirety of his adult life. He served in combat in Korea as well and was awarded a total of three purple hearts, three bronze stars, and a silver star. He died in 1967 of a perforated ulcer while still serving in the Army on active duty. He was a Master Sergeant at that point, which is the second highest enlisted rank in the Army.

2024-02-08 07:35:58 +0000 UTCSo Blithe's temporary blindness could be a result of head trauma taken from the drop, the eye issues he was having could be a symptom of it. Also he didn't die as a result of his wound, he went home and died much later but the others had lost contact with him and thought he died of his wounds.
