Update: going forward

Hello all!

This is a post to talk about where I am currently with my art and what I'll be doing going forward.

It's been a while since on every other post I comment frustration over my process, or that I'm trying to reinvent it to be faster/more organic. I even did the feedback form a couple months ago to gauge what changes would be pertinent to how I run my page now - and while the response was enlightening, what I did in the follow-up wasn't quite what I needed.

Many aspects of my life changed greatly in the past couple years, and I'm coming into terms with the fact that the working configuration that I followed well until recently isn't compatible with me anymore. I've been slowly losing gas for creating art, even of my own original characters, and just trying to change the dynamics of my established Patreon rewards wasn't enough to get me out of feeling drained out of creativity and drive.

I don't blame this on the platform, much less my patrons, who always showed me patience and support - it was the expectation I put onto myself to deliver promised art, and the subsequent guilt over not holding up that soured my passion. Looking back to the past years, ever since I first started gaining financial return from my art work, I've allowed myself to create entirely for me - not for clients, not for an audience, not for how it'd benefit my online presence - less and less.

I decided I need to take a step back and nurture my relationship with my art.

How I'm thinking of doing that, when it comes to Patreon - is no longer working under specific audience prompts, or promising new art under a certain schedule/period, which I was struggling to maintain anyway.

I apologize to those who sent suggestions or voted in previous polls and have been looking forward for one specific piece, and I'm willing to refund anyone who feels retroactively affected by this decision, since art from suggestions and polls were a part of the rewards at some point. But I'm going to put pending reward art on hold for the time being.

Right now I need room to draw for me first, explore different subjects, draw that idea I had instead of throwing it in the drawer in the back of my mind and never doing it because "art that is due comes first". It won't be an easy switch, because at this point I'm wired to the idea of creating for posting, but it's an exercise I need to do. I need to lower the expectations on me; ideally, I want to turn this platform into a channel where people who enjoy what I'm already creating can support and encourage just that.

I understand this might be disappointing to some - and I completely understand if anyone decides to cancel their subscription at this point. If you do decide to keep supporting me - THANK YOU!! You'll be funding whatever I'll be making next, with more creative freedom. If you decide to cancel - thank you for supporting what I created so far, which I am still proud of. ๐Ÿ’›

SO WHAT'S CHANGING?

Your relationship with your art comes first. After all, it was that genuineness that brought people to you in the first place. It's definitely not an easy switch like you said, but I'm going that the journey back to that creative start is healing and rewarding for you.

Completely understandable. Art should be something you enjoy, not feel pressured to make - that's where the best ideas & work comes from. Looking forward to seeing where this goes!

You absolutely deserve to take a step back to form a healthier relationship with your art!! Burnout happens all too often, and Iโ€™m certain we all would rather you create the things YOU enjoy on the timeframe YOU prefer instead of working yourself to the bone!! Weโ€™re here to support you and enjoy the work you share with us!! โค๏ธ
