Cyborg!Zephyr (+ Hyatt) scraps (OC/Oblivious Dream)

Where do I even begin.

Give a warm welcome to dystopic future Zephyr, the sole survivor of a destroyed alternative reality who made it his mission to save Hyatt and ensure he has a long life ahead of him - one Zephyr couldn't have with the Hyatt he lost.

A Zephyr whose body was permanently changed - transformed into a powerful weapon by the same otherworldly magic that destroyed everything he had - the most outstanding feature being a shapeshifting mecha arm.

A Zephyr who was in a relationship with Hyatt - so thoroughly entwined that he describes them as "being one" together - much to this Hyatt's amazement, since he and the Zephyr he knows are still only friends.

And a Zephyr who gives it his all to impede the world-eating entity from reaching Hyatt's reality - and spends his final moments in an inconsolable Hyatt's arms, content in knowing his birdie gets to live on and write his own story. This Zephyr fulfills the promise he made to his Hyatt that they'd get their happy ending - even if in another reality.

This was the payoff of several months of building up and foreshadowing in the on-going Oblivious Dream campaign, the TTRPG I originally created Hyatt (player character) and Zephyr (NPC) for. Props to my GM @yukits_laurant for having me by the balls for months long and completely destroying me with these reveals in the last couple sessions.

I'm obsessed, y'all. Cyborg!Zephyr might be gone but he is STAYING and his memory will live on in my heart and my drawings. 😭 These are just rough drafts that I HAD to get out of my system immediately after the sessions - I will probably draw a proper reference for him, extend the mechanical parts and scars, and give him a cool outfit.

Here's a couple bonus spicy facts:

1) Although at first approaching him caringly and catiously as one would to a small scared bird (which is how Hyatt feels when he first meets him), he's protective of Hyatt enough to forcibly demand he stays out of danger, in fear he loses him again (prompting Hyatt to literally fly away from his grasp in order to keep fighting alongside his friends).

2) In the beginning, he actually considered selfishly eloping with Hyatt to another reality, a safe one where they could start fresh, and leave the current one behind to its doom - but he ultimately trusted og Zephyr to eventually mature and figure out what he really wants, and decided to respect their journey. (Which doesn't stop me from headcanoning the route where he did, in fact, decide to elope with Hyatt :P)
