This absurd mechanical contraption was assembled by the Director of The Archive from leftover parts used in the prototyping process that created the Crushing Crocodile. Although its gears and blades aren’t fully enchanted, it houses the same powerful arcane engine, turning the entire device into a formidable metal shredder mounted on a shield. When activated, the gears spin at intense speeds, tearing through anything foolish enough to make contact. While it may not be strong enough to destroy a magical item, it can easily grind most mundane weapons to splinters. When the engine roars to life, the relentless grinding fills the air, making it as intimidating as it is deadly.

Fuel Mechanism. The Shredding Shield requires specialized fuel to power its spinning blades. Each fuel canister provides 3 charges. A canister of fuel costs 30 gp if purchased or can be crafted using alchemist's supplies for 15 gp worth of materials over the course of 1 hour.

Spinning Razor. As a bonus action, you can expend 1 charge to activate the shield's spinning blades for 1 minute. While active, you gain additional +1 to your AC and any creature that hits you with a melee attack takes 1d6 slashing damage from the whirling blades.

• Blade Breaker. If a creature hits you with a melee weapon while the shield’s gears are spinning, they must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or their weapon takes a -1 penalty to damage rolls. If the penalty reaches -5, the weapon is destroyed. If the creature rolls a natural 1 on the saving throw, the weapon instead takes a 1d4 penalty. Magical and adamantine weapons are immune to this effect.

Gutting Edge. While the gears are spinning, you can use the shield as a melee weapon. It deals 1d8 slashing damage, using your Strength modifier for attacks and damage rolls. The shield counts as magical for overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks.
