Swordtember Day 6 - Reliquary
Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)
The Mourning Memento is a sacred reliquary crafted from the bones of an orphan who died under the care of the Misty Shrine, a temple and monastery devoted to the worship of The Veiled Mistress—goddess of death, fate, and secrets, and the patron of the forgotten and lost. Those who, as their final wish, consent to having their remains sanctified, undergo a ritual transformation, their bones and ashes becoming a revered relic. The process culminates in the creation of an ornamented censer, fashioned from their skull and ashes, and blessed by The Veiled Mistress.
This blessing imbues the smoke produced by the censer with protective qualities, guarding against evil, corruption, and those who have cheated death. Additionally, the censer has the power to conjure a weapon forged from the ashes of the deceased. However, not every acolyte of the Misty Shrine is granted a Mourning Memento. The individual who consents to this sacred transformation often designates, as part of their final wish, the one they trust to bear this powerful relic.
-----------------
Wraithblade. As a bonus action, you can command the censer to form a weapon of your choice: a shortsword, longsword, scimitar, or rapier. The weapon is made of solidified smoke and deals necrotic damage instead of slashing or piercing damage. You gain bonus to your attack and damage roll equal to half your proficiency bonus (rounded down). The weapon lasts until you dismiss it (no action required) or until you create a new weapon using this feature. You can also consider this censer as a holy symbol.
Charges. The Mourning Memento has a number of charges equal to your proficiency bonus. It regains 1d4 expended charges daily at dawn.
Spectral Guardians. As an action, you can expend 2 charges to cast Spirit Guardians at 3rd level. When you cast the spell in this way, it deals necrotic damage instead of radiant damage, and creatures within the spell’s area lose resistance to necrotic damage and have their immunity to necrotic damage reduced to resistance. The DC is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom or Charisma modifier, your choice.
When casting the spell, you must choose one of the following types of incense or herbs to burn in the censer. The chosen effect cannot be changed until the spell ends. These effects last until the start of the affected creature's next turn:
Black Myrrh. Creatures that fail their saving throw against the spell are frightened until the start of their next turn.
Withering Sage. Creatures that fail their saving throw against the spell cannot regain hit points and cannot take reactions until the start of their next turn.
Ashen Lavender. Allies that start their turn within the spell’s radius gain resistance to necrotic damage and immunity to the frightened condition until the start of their next turn.
Whisper of The Dead. As an action, you can expend 1 charge to cast Speak with Dead. The smoke from the censer fills and possesses the corpse, allowing it to speak. If the corpse lacks a mouth, the skull inside the censer will speak on its behalf. This feature can also be used on undead creatures that you kill with the weapon or its features.
