MiP Apology and next steps

Hi everyone. I'm sorry for the much longer than anticipated delay. A certain distraction has occupied an unexpectedly large portion of my time recently, and I did not adequately adjust my priorities to handle it.

Don't worry, it's a positive distraction. For the purpose of writing productively, however, it is nonetheless a distraction.

I am now setting some rules for myself to mitigate the impact, of both this distraction and a number of other recurring distractions. For example, I will limit how much I read any other stories until I have made more progress on catching up with writing. That alone will free up at least an hour or two per day, I think.

For the immediate short term of finishing chapter 16, I am going mostly offline to focus on it immediately after posting this update.

Again, I'm sorry for all the delays, and I will work to resolve the issues that caused them.

The whole not actually posting any content for three weeks is a bit of an issue as far as patreon support goes. Saying you’re going to do something and not follow through is another issue entirely. Especially if you’re trying to avoid actually discussing whatever the hold up is.

Honestly man, you should switch to a per chapter payment system. Like $2.50/chapter for gold. You'd get way less flak, be able to relax a bit when you need it and not have to worry about breaking commitments. It would even gain you more income when you're feeling particularly productive.

Gray

It doesn't look good on you to not keep a promised schedule.

Louie “Blindy” Lichtträger

I'd much rather you posted the chapter that was promised last week instead of yet another apology.

Nathan B

I think the most sciency story aside from these two might be "My Big Goblin Space Program" basically taking goblins from stone age to going to the moon is the idea, and the litrpg system restricts goblins to lvl 1 but they get innate knowledge of any technology the MC makes.

One of my favorite authors used to post once a week... now we're lucky to get once a month. I'm still part of they're patreon though. :/

ShadeByTheSea

So…. going out for cigarettes again?

SparksBored

OK.. Imagine this, I have a list of stories to read, 5 that I must read every day until I reach the most recent one, 3 for each day of the week, 5 per week and as the month has 4 weeks, it means that each week of the month has 7 , and 35 per month (5 every 5th day of the month, and reading only once a month). So...you're reading a story and they don't even tell us...it's wrong...I also want to read this story that stops you from writing.

Don’t worry - find your balance with the new distraction and make sure you include taking care of yourself in that calculus.

"Jul 18th: One new chapter will be posted each Tuesday." "Jul 23rd: I will try to have it done and posted tomorrow." "Jul 30th: For the immediate short term of finishing chapter 16, I am going mostly offline to focus on it immediately after posting this update." Wordsmith... I'm not angry. However... If the next post doesn't involve a link to whatever it is has had you occupied, so that we too, can become occupied... There might be a tincy tiny little excessively violent riot > - >

Wolf_Senpai

Do tell us which stories you're reading, please; always great to get recommendations.

Josh

Take care of yourself. Things happen. Good stories are worth the wait.

That's funny, I just subscribed to Vitaly's patreon today, and recognized you from his content. It's kind of different from Scientific Sorcery and Magic is Programming, but I've really been enjoying Dungeon Life, by Khenal. You might also like "The Nature of Predators" from Space Paladin, if what you enjoy is "no, really, look, this is what capital S Science has wrought, you dumb fucking aliens", but what put me off is that the author has like a Dhar Mann level of understanding of morality. It's all text, no subtext, this side is Pure Evil and this side is Pure Good. Over, and over, and over. I've also been enjoying Otherworldly Scholar, but that story leans more into litrpg, so if you don't like that don't go for that one. Wearing Power Armor to Magic School I also like, but has a cripplingly low rate of time advancements. It's been going for two years with weekly updates, and we're still in the first two weeks of the story.

Yo Beeees! you seem to be reading the stuff I am reading. Any other interesting books you can suggest in Vitaly and Douglas's repertoir?

Dmitri

So, in programming terms, you had to squash a memory leak? XD

BarGamer

Reading other stories huh? 😄😄😄 Wow good luck man 😀😀😀 I totally understand why you may get distracted there 😄😄😄 Hard to be productive when you have something new and good to read 😀😀. Though I may have caught up on some of those. So maybe recommend some 😀😀, based on how you write about magic I really want to hear some of those you are reading 😀😀

Irakli Jishkariani

Dood, don't apologize. You do what needs to be done, live life

viperfan7

I'm glad you've got positive distractions going on! On the selfish side, I'd rather you pace yourself and put out good chapters instead of forcing yourself to rush.

As far as I'm concerned, anything that lets you write the story at a comfortable pace for you is good for me.

Erik Zimmerman

I as your patron am happy for your happy distraction, and certain the story will continue to be great. It's been fantastic so far, so you clearly know how to do it ❤️

Hauke Musicaloris

Good luck. And don't worry about us, go at the pace you feel is most comfortable

Paweł P

I avoid my work all the time by reading stories lol. So I at least know where youre coming from. Good luck on being profuctive
