I really like the sound of the hourglass merch it sounds really cool! I like the idea of something that maybe also encourages people to set aside a little time for themselves for a creative interest too. I do think it's true what you say - talent isn't born, it's made! I think the trouble a lot of people have these days is they are so sometimes so time constrained by other responsibilities that they don't always feel like they have much time for things, especially as these things are slow progress (i totally get that from past experience). You get out what you put in though, and when you do set aside time, you can really reap the benefits and it can be really fun and rewarding to see your own progress, however gradually that might take. Even if it's just an hour a week or half an hour. Plus when you make time to work on things you want to learn/do, it often doesn't feel like work anyway, it's just fun and the time flies :) Like painting can be very relaxing and by putting the time in, you are naturally getting better each time

Thanks for the input! The point is to show people that people don't magically get talent. Martina wasn't born a great paintress, nor was I born a coder, but people always say "oh she has so much talent, I could never do that". Talent = skill, you spend hours, you get what people like to call talent. It's just a play on the fact that people use the word talent as the word skill :) - Hansi

Hi Martina and Hansi, I like the idea of the new merch you are planing and it's message and I'd like to propose to use skill instead of talent, because you increase your skill in doing something, the more you practise, not your talent. The more talent you have, the fewer hours you need to reach a certain skill level. Best wishes Regenbogenkrieger

Correction : tools

Jake Carter

I think you are missing a trick by not giving your tool a fantasy theme touch.. e.g a wizard on the handle of the leather burnishing tool

Jake Carter

I was wondering if you would be making one for Hansi and what happened to Hansi his hand?

As I mention on a YouTube comment: What about using 'gold leaf' from you book binding projects on the gold of the shield?

MND

Was a cool project the whole outfit and shield. And thanks for encouraging your fellow creators. I been trying to start doing different projects 👍🏼

Good question! I (Hansi) used to make viking round shields for a re-enactment group. They weren't curved, but I spoke with a few people there that made curved tear drop shields as I wanted to make my own. I think the usually technique is to moisten it and press the plywood toward for a curved surface for a week or so. The fibers will dry in place and trying to change it back will break it, so it's extremely sturdy. However, we didn't have that time available. That's why we used two pieces of plywood and glued them right before we curved them. They will dry to eachother in the position we bent it to, and the hope is that the glue basically have to break if they ever are to return to the original shape, because they will need to slide relatively to eachother to lift the curve. Since it's wood glue I don't think that will happen, but we will keep you posted :)

Nerdforge

Aw rats, was going to ask about the bending of the shield. Are you concerned it may loose its shape / warp / bend over time? If not, what did you do to make sure the wood remains in the same shape?
