💭 You didn’t know that new sex position is the most possible resource-heavy feature for MyJLC!

Hi guys!

You didn't know that the most confusing request I ever get is… to add more sex positions into MyJLC. Though it's the most popular one. So let me try to explain what goes inside my head when this happens.

First of all, why do people ask? That's pretty clear. The number of H-scenes is a defining feature for most of the adult games. The first you see when opening a game description is ‘23 scenes’, ‘31 hand-drawn arts’, ‘19 sex positions’. Shiny numbers are a much better selling point than ‘beautiful characters’, ‘unexpected story plots’ or ‘charming fantasy world’, especially for a NSFW game. Then games you play create your experience, and your experience shapes your expectations from other games. Then you think ‘X had 17 positions and it was good’, ‘Y has 1 position and I like it. Would I like it twice more if it had 2?’ Well, you may not deliberately think about it, but that's basically how the human mind works.

A small illustration (it’s joke time). In the 2000s smartphone manufacturers were trying to create the best possible keyboard: 3x4-keyboard, qwerty-keyboard, with numbers, with shortcuts, round, split, foldable keyboard. Remember the mottos, like ‘a typewriter in your pocket’ or ‘get a button for each function’? – now it’s impossible to mention it without smiling. And then the iPhone appeared in 2007 having only ONE button, and the mobile industry was never the same.

I don't say I'm changing the world. But from the very beginning I tried to focus on details that are usually abandoned in such games (and they do it for a reason avoiding a difficult and time-consuming way). So instead of 10 scenes with 1 animation per each we’re up to one scene already including 228 animation files. The fun part is that if they’re blended fine enough to look natural, our mind simply does not recognize it as an additional content to pay attention to. But I hope this is exactly what creates the experience you like MyJLC for. 

(Joke continues) So it’s up to you to choose 33 buttons to do one thing or 1 button to do the rest.

Another major nuance is that MyJLC is not a 3D game. And I’m surprised that someone labels it ‘3D’. This is totally 100% 2D! And it means that simply turning the head or the whole body to the left/right/back is technically impossible – the backside of it is a black square. And all of 972 wearable items (aka customization options) already implemented in the game cannot be simply reused for new poses. That means to start from ‘0’ and spend about half a year or so to redraw and rebuild it all for a new scene.

Even worse starts next, when adding new stuff. It may seem that adding 1 toy for 2 poses and adding 2 poses to 1 toy requires the same amount of work. However the game is in active development: with each release a lot of animations, rigs and mechanics are re-made to match the new features. So I assume that adding poses before features will multiply the amount of work that will be re-done later. Other words, it makes no sense at this stage of development.

Ok, now you know what runs through my head each time I read about ‘Have you ever thought about adding more positions?’, ‘This definitely needs more positions’ and sometimes even ‘Hey author! I want more positions!’

Despite everything I said above, it’s still possible to add 1-2 more positions in the future. And I hope we'll do it one day! So let's focus on other things first to make this day closer.
