I'm really glad you guys reacted to this movie. Zach Cregger, writer and director of Weapons, I salute you. This is such a unique film with a fantastic script, creative direction, perfect cinematography, and incredible performances across the board. They actually made me viscerally hate Gladys. This is easily my favorite movie of 2025. Zach started writing this after the sudden death of his closest friend and longtime collaborator Trevor Moore in 2021. They spent years working together on The Whitest Kids U’ Know, a very funny and unique sketch comedy troupe. They had made a TV show together and had a lot more planned. Even though Weapons is fictional and leans into the supernatural, Zach has said it came from a deeply personal place: grief. He didn’t write it out of ambition, but as a way to process what he was going through. That is why tragedy is such a central part of the film’s emotional core.

This movie is very interesting to me in terms of the symbolism and meaning behind the movie. They are actually working on a prequel to this movie, focusing on Gladys and her backstory. I would have loved a continuation to see what happened with the kids, but the narrator, I believe, is meant to be telling this in a kind of kid folklore style, so in that I don't think it matters what happens after, but I'd like to see it. The prequel is estimated to maybe be released in late 2027 or early 2028, as production hasn't started on it yet. The scariest part to me in this movie is the parents with the forks. I can definitely understand, after seeing that, why Alex did what he did. Poor kid. The story device of different elements being shown and coming together is a device called a 'story quilt,' and I adore that name for it because that's exactly what it is. You work on different parts of the story at a time, and then you sew them together to make an all-encompassing story, just as if you were making a quilt. It can also be called a patchwork narrative which is essentially the same thing.
