This is probably the worst episode in S3. I remember really disliking it and I guess I still do. This sits strangely in S3 and should not have been the premiere because it was actually a Season 2 episode that they delayed because the setting was too similar to the real life Virginia Tech shooting that happened around the same period. It was in fact intended to be the season 2 finale, which also seems strange because the Frank saga was such a strong finale. It almost seems like they should have just cut this episode out entirely. Maybe they were forced to settle for this because of Mandy Patinkin’s abrupt exit. I always consider the next episode to be the actual Season 3 premiere.

I actually didn't mind this episode. They have shown us who the unsub is immediately before with the firestarter guy, the guy with PTSD and Frank. I think the concept was more maybe about profiling itself, what Gideon was going through, as well as being about the sudden change to the unsub who was trying to end their own live, but couldn't do it themselves, so they decided to get a serial killer to do it for them. Which I think was an interesting concept. I do have mixed opinions about the main unsub a little bit though, I feel he wasn't as interesting as I would want him to be since we showed him right away , he was kind of just a basic unsub, fitting everything perfectly and I would like a more satisfactory ending than we got him and we were correct. But a part of me also finds it interesting that we don't really 100% know for sure he was guilty, which would make the fact that he was so boring, fitting the profile perfectly and wasn't difficult at all but easy to read and catch, much more interesting, since they've made us wonder a little bit, if he's actually guilty. It makes sense that people are questioning Hotch's leadership since people come back to work right after a trauma and mistakes are made, drug addiction happens or they become killers, but I don't put that fully on Hotch since TV shows tend to not bring up therapy. I do wish TV shows in general weren't so allergic to getting their characters to go to therapy, there should be mandatory therapy for all these people after what they've dealt with but they just seem to come straight back to work and if they are going to therapy the show just doesn't bring it up. Even now when people are getting better at talking about mental health, TV shows still don't like bringing up therapy,(Cobra Kai)...anyway, great reaction, I look forward to the next one.

This is exactly why I said Frank was a good villain. This episode fell flat for me because the unsub didn’t challenge them at all—it was lazy as hell. They immediately had the right guy, and I hate episodes where the killer is found so easily. It’s just so anti-climactic. Honestly, it’s hard not to be on Strauss’ side after this one. Gideon was clearly struggling with the trauma of losing Sarah, and it turned the whole thing into a mess. This episode just proves why these agents need therapy after dealing with such intense experiences 😂 I’m excited for the next one though because it can’t get any worse than this 😭😭
