I agree this is a great episode and it's nice to see the backstories of how they all ended up working for Torchwood. My only gripe is I wish this had been shown in series 1 instead of here at the end of series 2. Your comments throughout the show so far mirror other people's views and the amount of times I wanted to say "you'll see why later" when it all ties to this episode. For example, Owen is such an ass all the time. EVERYONE thinks that, but this episode makes you sympathize with him a little, and you understand WHY he's an ass. Also a few times throughout you've commented on how for a trained special ops team, they don't seem to be very professional and are quite the bunch of misfits. Again this episode shows WHY that is; it's because they are a bunch of misfits and they have no special ops training lol. I think if this had been shown at the end of series 1 instead, everyone would see Owen and the team in a different light during series 2. A couple of specific things that jumped out to me; Ianto being desperate to join the team isn't because he wants to work for Torchwood necessarily but because he's planning to use their equipment to bring back Lisa (Cyberwoman). He specifically called out that she is deceased, and mentions the equipment Torchwood 3 (Cardiff) scavenged from the rubble when Torchwood 1 (London, Canary Wharf) went down. Also, Toshiko's story was set 5 years ago. Captain Jack told her he'd have her record wiped after 5 years service, so if the math is mathin Tosh should finally be getting a clean record any day now. That means she can go visit her mother again (she was told she can't see her until her record is wiped). Great reaction, looking forward to the next one.
