This was a great episode, the back and forth between Missy and the Master was fantastic, of course they would take each other out, it just makes sense. It's sad though, that after all these, well centuries, the Doctor has been trying to reach his old friend the Master/Missy, he finally did and it seems he won't even know. The companions do tend to have sad endings, but I'm glad things worked out better for Bill than becoming a Cyberman and that was the end, she gets to travel with someone she liked and can still go back to her life if or when she feels like it, so honestly a little bit happier than Clara's ending. It was interesting to see the Doctor just stopping his regeneration so many times and refusing to go and was great to see David Bradley back as the first Doctor from the movie. Great reaction, I look forward to the Christmas special.

Can't say enough good things about this episode. Besides heaven sent this is probably my most rewatched episode of Doctor who. Everything with Missy and the Master was so good, and the way they play off each other was really well done. I remember being so excited after she stabbed him that she would finally team up with the Doctor but of course it couldn't happen. It's sad to think the doctor may never know that he actually did finally get through to her and almost had his friend back. I was a little disappointed Bill wouldn't be able to come back but I think they wrapped up her story really well with the pilot from the first episode coming back for her and giving her some kind of happy ending. I also really love the Doctor finally being able to explain why he does what he does and showing that yes, he is a good man. He may not always be sure that he is, but doing what he does, without witness, without reward and just to be kind is exactly what a good person is. It's crazy that he was really willing to go out like this though. We've seen him use his regeneration energy to take out entire armies of daleks before but he was so determined not to change that he would rather blow himself up than regenerate. Guess we'll see how that turns out in the Christmas special. It's also really sad that his final words could have been "Pity. No stars. I hoped there'd be stars." He may not feel like he deserves any reward but the thought of him not being able to even see the stars after spending his entire life flying among them really got to me when I saw it. I'd hoped there'd be stars is the name of the track that plays as he's laying there and again in the Tardis. It's simple but one of my favorite tracks in the series. Can't wait for the next episode.

I get what you mean about it being emotional, but not AS emotional as you would expect for this kind of episode. I think had the Doctor regenerated at the end it probably would have hit harder, but seeing that he's sticking around it kind of pulls you out of it. Not that I'm complaining, I'd rather have another episode with Capaldi lol. Bringing the 1st Doctor back is another treat from Moffat, and probably the single biggest nod to classic who he's given us.
