Well, I can't say I know anything about Chicago, since I'm Canadian and have never even visited Chicago, so I definitely didn't have the criticisms that you did for this episode. I did find some dialogue to be bad, but this is an older show so that makes sense, I did find the detective to be infuriating, but I didn't find it to be bad acting, probably because I liked the actor on another show Third Watch. So this is an episode, I've always thought was a good episode, with great acting from Shemar Moore, it was interesting and quite sad to learn about Derek's past. I've seen plenty of shows where cops think a character is guilty with absolutely no explanation, except sometimes that their racist and that's it. So I appreciated the fact that the show tried to show how the profile could fit Derek, quite well in particular during that scene when it showed suspects being shuffled off the screen as it was narrowed down to Derek, not to mention the brief bit of info from Reid about it making sense for people in law enforcement to commit crimes before he was shut down, because not the right time Reid. As for them not suspecting Buford, I don't think that was necessarily bad writing or stupid, for one people have biases and the detective had a problem with Derek since he was 15, so a strong bias there and then even in real life, people just don't believe or like to believe that their heroes, those great men out there like Buford who do so much for their community could ever do anything wrong, so people would often not even consider looking at someone like Buford, even though the profile would fit them to. I also liked that scene with Derek and Buford at the end of the episode, I thought the acting was great from both of them, because people like Buford often think they've done nothing wrong, that people should be thankful to them, because there such great people who were only trying to help, so those denials from him and him asking Derek for help at the end, like Derek owed him something, which was infuriating to watch, made sense and I think was good writing. I do wish their had been some kind of followup with the detective though, I think it was weird that after he tried so hard to go after Derek, there was just a slight head not and then he was at the funeral and that was that, I wish even though it probably wouldn't have meant much to Derek at this time, we could have least go some kind of verbalized apology, although I guess the detective probably knew it wouldn't have meant much, so the head not was all he could do. Anyway, great reaction, I look forward to the next one.
