i don't want to spoil anything because this is one show that I keep up with on a weekly basis, but I think they handle character development well and you can kind of see that with Ava saying that she never wants to deal with being a sub again, but you also see a softer side from her throughout the series how she cares about her grandmother, how she hung out with Gregory's 1st grader and gave him an axolotl. I really appreciate Jacob in this episode and how he's shown to have Janine's back. He and Greg are really good friends to her and Jacob just got more and more silently upset so it really strengthened that sign of friendship
