I think Mac with his comments was the classic example of ignorance vs racism. Plus pride. I don’t think Mac was racist but he was ignorant as hell and too prideful to truly say he was sorry. The statement he made has been something that was said for decades in football. It’s why black QBs weren’t really given a chance in the NFL til recently. So when this came out it was super relevant. I think coach Taylor didn’t fire him because he knew the man wasn’t racist to his core. He just said something dumb. Plus it being his friend. If he was saying slurs I think it would be way different. As far as that bus scene after the game. I remember it having me shook and my mom legit screaming at the tv. Who knows what they would’ve done to smash if given the chance. Mac doesn’t get a pass because he stepped up and stopped it but it at least opened his eyes up. I still think they should’ve had a scene where he apologized to the players. I still like the ep to this day but now the bus scene just makes me angry.
