LIZ RETURNS. Report from Natal Con. Audio grab bang.

Gang actually back.

Comments

Did you ask the AI to give you the intro song in the style of Alison Krauss?

Gina Calabrese

As an IVF doer, shit sucks. Can't recommend if you've got easier options.

KMB24

Best opening remix thus far

K J

Also very nice of Liz to come on the show

Orb

I took several Waymos in Phoenix and they rock. I love to ride in them drunk and make the people with me listen to the bollywood playlist

Orb

i have no idea lol

The Bruenigs

Part II might be needed for this one… so many questions… for example, liz- do you think Dr Baby Gravy knew you didn’t initially know who he was? like when you were at the venue before going to the bar?

Lili Mandl

This and more was addressed in the episode 👍 worth giving a listen

LP3

Great conversation but mine cut out with 12 mins to go and. O matter how many times I pressed play, there was nothing.

Gina Burton

Oh people are pissed about that article.

Kyle Mouren

lmao!

The Bruenigs

Not for nothing, a PhD in the UK is like 3 years. I’m not sure Raw Egg Nationalist really deserves to call himself Dr when he’s in america; he’s more like babygravy9 M.A.

Folks,,

You know you’ve made it when you can say “the proles love me”

Hudson

Left-Anarchists of all stripes are unknowing libertarians

TC

Does someone here have a link to the original of the Patagonia audio grab bag? 😊

Hi Liz, I read your article and I agree with your central point: children are good, and we as a society should support them. But all the ink you spill on the genuinely good reasons someone might be pronatalist creates the impression that these are unifying beliefs—that this is the shared foundation holding the movement together. It’s not. You love your children. You write beautifully about seeing yourself in their eyes, about the joy of giving your life to them. But that’s not what motivates the far right. That’s not why Elon Musk has 14 kids. The young, single, terminally online men aren’t interested in humbly giving themselves to anything. For them, this is all cosplay—a costume they put on to LARP as wise, responsible 1950s sitcom dads. And then it’s back to the screens, back to the porn, back to yukking it up over AI-generated Ghibli memes of ICE agents deporting someone’s family. They’re not interested in your lovely vision of parenthood. They’re interested in how beautifully you mask the ugliness they carry inside.

I’m not sure how universal this is, but I found myself *really* relating to Matt talking about his experiences working alongside anarchists. I say “working” and not “organizing” because… well you know why lol 😅. There’s this anarchist space in my area that has a pretty full calendar of weekly and monthly events, like speakers, and workshops, and occasionally shows and what-have-you. And they’re all so warm and friendly (and really funny too!), but holy COW do they have some backwards ass politics!

The Bruenigs

in fact, i do: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2025/04/natal-conference-austin/682398/

The Bruenigs

Why are you taking the "Natalist" convention at face value? When they say “our many female speakers couldn’t make it because they’re all pregnant,” they’re not earnestly explaining a scheduling issue—they’re using a lazy, trollish deflection to sidestep an obvious critique. Pointing out that this highlights how childcare obligations uniquely burden women isn’t a clever observation or a twist in the Natalist agenda; it’s the subtext of the entire event. The message is clear: women’s roles are instrumental to the natalist agenda, and their autonomy is secondary. What’s puzzling is your apparent assumption that the organizers are being forthright. Perhaps consider that when people host what is, functionally, a eugenics conference, they might feel compelled to mask the uglier parts of their agenda—because those parts are broadly repellent. The attendees understand the subtext. The speakers understand it. Do you?

Grant Cardone mentioning Jesus owning Gulfstream jets makes a lot more sense when you know he's a scientologist. Those people love boats and airplanes.

Christian Hunt

Liz, what did you think of Catherine Pakaluk? I think you mentioned the name briefly. I found her book interesting but am skeptical towards its suggestion that some kind of religion-friendly policy would make a big difference here

Abby

re: Jack Prilosec, you have to grade his intelligence on a curve because he's polish.

Christian Hunt

Is Liz no longer a teetotaler?

Christian Hunt

haha i don't think the listeners are here for "liz interviews a bunch of extremists about what the view is from their world" lol

The Bruenigs

"lomez voice of reason" was not on my 2025 bingo card

The Bruenigs

Yeah my bad, I should have written "speak at" instead of "attend"

Otto Laakso

They wouldn't allow her to *speak* at the conference, not (not) attend. Kinda sus though; like what lomez said in his remarks, pro-natalism should be pre-political.

TC

They could talk about medieval minutiae, keep it academic!

TC

Please no.

Christian Hunt

Welcome back!

Missed u Liz <3

alexanderhg1 .

Kind of sobering that the Atlantic - which published a piece defending the killing of children in Gaza ("it is possible to kill children legally" etc.) - won't allow one of its writers to attend a right-wing pro-natalism conference. Apparently they *do* have moral/optical red lines, but literally defending the killing of children isn't one of them

Otto Laakso

"pronatalists throw conference, attended by mostly groypers and few women" is a hilarious and revealing headline

Norman X. Picklestein

As a fellow Bruhead line cook, that guy almost certainly got to Matt through Chapo, which is fairly well known amongst anglophone kitchen workers

Ian H

You should interview Raw Egg Nationalist for the pod!

TC

Shoot that audio grab bag straight into my veins.

Warbs

Regarding "union guy" attendance at NatCon, it would be funny if AWHONN and CCPU sent people in the same capacity that like UAW goes to an auto industry conference to lobby for more factories.

Ian H

I cackled at “Brueynigs” in the song

Josh Williams

When I was in 7th grade in Texas one of the football coaches walking through the halls definitely convinced my 220 lb ass to go get shin splints for a couple weeks before I decided concussions weren't for me

John

I like how Matt can remember specific debate rounds like the way LeBron James can remember specific plays he ran from a game 10 years ago.

Tim Masterson

When gang is not back I say “no” You know what the hell I be saying when gang is back. Today I say: ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
