After seeing it shared by some "rationalist" types, I looked into the OECD data over the past 20 years, and it seems clear that even using his preferred measure of relative prosperity (the OECD household disposable income measure) the US is a very obvious outlier. The historical data on health spending vs. disposable income makes this extremely clear (whether looking at the past 20 years or the past 6 years since the 2017 graph he uses as the big money graph at the top of his article). Given all of the analyses and work (though I'd critique it as not particularly scientific), surely he must have noticed this.
