Matt MUST write a tome called Cookshops for the Future in which he lays out his systematic ideal welfare state before he loses his lust for it. The Left needs his research and troll brain in action

2024-02-06 04:33:23 +0000 UTCA Trump victory in 2024 is better for the left, and the sooner we all accept that, the better.

2024-02-06 02:22:47 +0000 UTCI enjoyed listening to Matt talking through his quarter-life crisis. As the ocean can fill many buckets, Matt can master and contribute to many areas. Perhaps it is also time to refresh the podcast as well.

2024-01-30 14:44:23 +0000 UTCwhat's the context of the 14th amendment. Barring supporters of the Confederacy who broke their oaths they took to gain office. So did Trump. Democrats won't fight for progressive policies and mobilize the working class so they're going to lose to the fascists unless they go lawfare.

2024-01-28 18:01:40 +0000 UTCSupreme Court is very unlikely to bar Trump from the ballot but the Democrats should still press the issues. Republicans are already maximalist when it comes to elections and did a coup in 2000. Of course Democrats are too chickenshit unless they're using lawfare against the Left. The key is the word "insurrection" and plainly Trump was pushing an insurrection even if it was poorly done. He questioned the integrity of the process, endangering election workers. Again very maximalist so fuck him, go full lawfare to bar him. Who cares if his supporters are upset? They're all mostly very old. Rare miss for Matt on this. Liz's friend was right.

2024-01-28 17:59:13 +0000 UTCTrump scewered Niki Haley over her stupid answer that slavery didn't cause the Civil War. He's had senior moments though too even though Biden has been having them more and more, just babbling nonsense.

2024-01-28 17:55:12 +0000 UTCHave you heard of former Nebraska state senator, Ernie Chambers? He was a north Omaha black marxist state senator for a number of years and had the Matt style arg/ debate mindset. He was known for reading all of the bills in detail and running circles around everyone else. Using the rules to hold things up a lot, etc. A real eccentric guy/ kind of autisim-coded imo. Also a huge anti-death penalty advocate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernie_Chambers

2024-01-26 23:14:48 +0000 UTCThe trick with the Stancil et al. position on the vibecession is that their stance is essentially unfalsifiable. Was coverage of the economy bad? Has coverage gotten better and that’s why sentiments have improved? They’re just fundamentally not interested in proving either sides of that, so no point engaging. Also, kinda funny to hear Liz describe Trump as sharp. He has this sort of super power where you hear him talk and due to the nature of his inflection and showmanship, you’re like “Ok, I get the gist of that.” But if you actually read transcripts of what he says and it’s like “this is literal nonsense.” The man has not had a coherent thought in the past eight years. He’s sharp the way a rusty nail on the ground is sharp. He’s acting all out of instinct; no intention.

2024-01-26 22:21:07 +0000 UTCSaw that Kenny was killed last night in front page news this morning. Thinking of you, Liz. So horrified by State nihilism and murderousness. And, at the same time, I was moved to see his face, this morning, and “his story,” in the mainstream of mediated discourses. It was remarkable to see his words (as well as Reverend Woods’s) in the reporting. Testament. Anyways: hope you’re hanging in. I do believe there is so much good in your work. And also, I can’t imagine his (nor your) suffering and sorrow. We’re with you.

2024-01-24 17:56:19 +0000 UTCI was pretty bought in to the vibecession discourse, and I think what the Will Stancils and Matt Darlings would say about the recent shift is that there has been a conscious effort to chance the social media narrative. Not really doing a value judgement on that statement but it’s not correct that they are just like, “oh great look I’m correct now”

2024-01-24 14:13:59 +0000 UTCI'm with Matt about the constitution being ridiculously vague. It seems like a lot of time a justice has already made a decision and just works backwards from there.

2024-01-24 04:27:17 +0000 UTCHey Matt - I'd thought your position was that it literally doesn't matter what the constitution says, because judicial review means that the Court can just decide that constitution means whatever they want it to mean - did I misunderstand you, or have you changed your mind? Or do you just think about it all that much? I'm worried that sounds a bit snarky. I really am asking in earnest. I spend a lot of time thinking about constitutional government, judicial review, etc.

2024-01-23 17:16:22 +0000 UTCI noticed in the polling for the upcoming Finnish presidential election next week that the candidates' numbers are mostly in line with those for the parliament, with the exception of the Greens and SDP; Greens are polling around 8% for parliament, and 20% for president; SDP is around 21% and only 6%, respectively. One can assume the Green candidate, who is jockeying with the NCP candidate for first place, is receiving much of his support from dissenting SDP voters. Do you have any insight on the situation?

2024-01-23 14:40:14 +0000 UTCCapital ownership, welfare and then labor policy nicely rounds out your blueprint! Have you considered applying your critiques and recommendations for poverty reduction measures to less than Nordic nations other then the US? Might be another alternative avenue for bigger impact.

2024-01-23 13:56:21 +0000 UTCI subscribe to lesser-evilism in elections; however, I have zero sympathy for the idea that you shouldn't criticize the lesser evil candidate or threaten to withhold your vote from them when the election is nine months away. Surely exerting pressure on Biden to modify his positions is exactly what you should be doing at this point, and theoretically - perhaps only theoretically - right now the pressure has most potency because a second Trump presidency is seen as such a cataclysmic threat.

2024-01-23 09:26:26 +0000 UTCHey, this is the comments section, it's for thoughts! 😂 I just thought invoking Ms. Huston as the paragon of beauty was hilarious given her status as the archetype for "evil witch who preys on children" for me and others lol

2024-01-23 07:35:09 +0000 UTCI doubt there will be any Trump/Biden debates, and I doubt Biden is even going to do much publicity-generating campaigning outside of digital messaging (and Trump will just stick to the usual friendly rallies). This is going to be the most tuned-out election since 2000, with, similarly, an inevitable chaotic finale.

2024-01-23 07:06:01 +0000 UTCThe body image discourse is shifting (I think we could say fully shifted now) back, look no further than Kim's journey over the last two(?) years now: butt implants removed, getting big into fitness, bragging about not eating, becoming noticeably skinnier, not tanning as much, etc.

2024-01-23 05:24:30 +0000 UTCI mean, isn't the simple material explanation for the fashion industry catering toward women that they're the ones who buy women's clothes? It wouldn't make commercial sense for fashion to particularly care about what straight men find attractive, because that's not their customer base.
